Has anyone surfed the point at Fraser Island just south of Orchid Beach?

I windsurfed there when I was about 15yo when visiting my auntie but I spoke to them recently and apparently it is real sharky now. When I say real sharky I mean like a sighting almost daily and often if you have a big fish on the line, by the time you get it to the beach it's just a head if your lucky.

On google maps it looks like it's working. Check it out, worth a look. I can put up with the dingos on the beach but Tiger sharks is where I draw the line.

We surfed at Fraser Island last year on the east beach. Five of us out one morning surfing, we then saw a whale coming north so we paddled out to it and watched it go under us, then paddled back to the shore. A tourist light plane was flying over head which is usual and then landing on the beach about 1 km north of us.

We later found out from the pilot that 3 huge sharks were under us the whole time. He said they were way bigger than our boards ?? Fraser does have great breaks and surf but also many hungry sharks. I think my dad is the only man in history to be bitten by a shark and a dingo on Fraser Island !!

When I windsurfed there I didn't know better and another guy was out. I was on slalom gear so didn't expect to get to wet but I remember it being very nice, warm blue/green water and the wind was X shore with a touch of offshore so it would have been offshore at the point (I didn't sail up there). SE is pretty much the trade up there for 7 or 8 months so I guess it would be pretty consistent offshore.

Surfed there over the last 35 years always had a spotter for the sharks. We have left the water on numerous times because of sharks.

Hey Bnaccas,
Its been s...... forever
It has a lot of resident, transiant, large and small , kick arse terminators, if you must enter the water, do it when the water is clear, do it with a mate or 2 and get out before the sun is goes down, probably similar control measures you guys use when surfing way down south.
They are extremely active when the southerly blows and you will see them daily. They are realy curious .
But.......the waves can be choiceas well.

I'm 32 so I was there 17 years ago and didn't even think about them. But now older and wiser you think about that stuff. That sand point does look like the perfect setup though. I'm meant to be heading up there in a couple months.
