I would be curious to know what interest there would be if there was a general paddling forum on this site. Perhaps something to include distance and down wind sup, outrigging, surf ski etc. I know there are a number of guys getting into oc paddling from sup and I know a number of keen paddlers that keep an eye on seabreeze just for the weather info that may also get involved. These days I see nearly as many cars with surf skis on the roof as cars with surf boards. It would be great to have somewhere where people can post about specific training techniques, paddle techniques as well as reviews on oc's and skis. There has been a fair amount of interest in Lacey's post on his new oc1 for a start.
If there was enough interest from people to get a street sup forum surely there would be enough interest to get a forum for out rigging and surf skis. At least its on the water!
Is it worth asking Laurie about?

I'm not surf what forums the surf ski guys use (goat boats)....
But yeah, I'm sure OC1 & Kayak could benefit from being here....
Not sure if OC1 already have a similar platform... ???

AusOutrigger does get busy at times, especially when the domestic racing season gets underway. Most of the guys over there would most likely be checking out Seabreeze at least once a day for the forecast and the graphs, I know I did actively for over a year before I realised you had forums and other stuff as well. And I've seen some of the usual suspects posting over here too. It's worth checking out the archives for some good insightful info, and for those interested in a variety of paddling styles won't go wrong chacking out the ramblings of one Rambo in his blog Rambo's locker. If it's surf ski that you're after, suefski.info is a good starting place.
Good to see some interest in other styles, as a former ski paddler, OC1 and OC6 paddler, prone paddleboard, and now stand up paddler, there are many similarities and much to be learnt from other styles.

For sure, Ocean paddling in all of it's forms from ocean ski's to prone paddle boards, SUP and outrigger canoes especially one mans (oc1) and the races for all combined craft seem to be becoming more and more popular. Groups like blast paddlers and the new Pacifica paddling club have been formed in Sydney not to mention the Fenn series, king of the coast etc.
Paddling something in the ocean is definitely fun and it would make sense to have a seperate section to talk about it. Don't even know if it needs a craft category, just ocean paddling would work. Laurie could drop a link for it on the maps pages and it would be active quickly. Like hawkie said everyone is using this site now.

sounds good , this forum is "stand up paddle surfing" . so a general paddle section makes sence for those of us , just paddleing, not surfing the beast.

I reckon this forum is big enough for a split from the main section here which is stand up paddle surfing.
There could be flat water, distance, race, open ocean, downwind.
But do these fall under the one section? Or do you have a section for racing and a section for downwinders etc etc?

Interesting.
It's something that's been thought about .. I know a man, who bought a dog off another man, who's brothers sisters husbands nephew owns an OC1.
He reckoned there were about 10 OC sold in Australia per year .. but .. it would be good to have a paddling section on Seabreeze, for similar reasons you guys mention here...

If there was a general paddling forum that could include ocean racing surf skis that could increase the numbers. They seem to be very popular and seem to be the number 1 racing craft around. I'm sure those top paddlers would have heaps of helpful info to share.

Laurie's right, most of the other sports are much smaller than Kiting, Sailboarding or SUP. But the inclusion and links from the maps page could drag people in to become part of the ocean paddling community. All together this market could be worth considering. This site could be the only one providing for all.
Commercially this could work for Seabreeze providing actual statistics to be presented to potential advertsers from these areas. As above most of these people are already using the site for the weather, the section with members from the disciplines may add up to be enough to at least get advertising on the Maps page from companies like Fenn etc etc. Not to mention events that may be promoted.

I think just another category would be fine just like the adition of 'street sup'.
