Hello to all, greetings!
Have been reading the forum for some time but this is my first post.

I have been looking at the Gerry Lopez boards and the really look good. I'm appr 91 kg and am wondering how the 9'6 and 8'10/8'11" would work for me.

Any experiences with these boards would be welcome! The Riviera boards/shapes but also the Surftech boards of Gerry Lopez look great, but I can't test them here.

Could you please share your opinions?

at 91 kg it will not be easy on a gerry 8 10. i owned one and i weigh 78kg. it's doable if you are good enough

HI Lacey,

How did you like the 8'10". Was it the Riviera model? How about the construction?

Thnks

Still interested in comments on these boards by 'big' guys.

yeah, thats the one,it a hard work type of board, but it will do everything. i converted mine to a thruster which i found better. i caught some big waves on this board and that's where it was best. the riviera model had a stringer, was glass epoxy and pretty duriable, but was on the heavier side. the newer by surftec i think might be lighter and looking at the photos looks like they have changed it a bit
ps hey mac, you better tell jc they are old hat
cheers

Hi mutant - I am assuming you are enquiring about the tuflite models. The dimensions for your weight are kinda iffy unless you are very experianced. These new models cannot be compared to the older Gerry models out of china - they have the latest tuflite technology and will be a far superior board and will have more float. Having said that though you would be far better off looking at other options like a starboard or others in the tuflite range with widths over 29". (thats if you are only looking at production boards - there are other options if you look at customs)

I have not personally ridden the new gerrys and have not actually seen one on the gold coast, but I am sure someone in Aus has and may give you better feedback on the boards. Tell ya what though the "lil darlin" model looks awesome - shame its not a bit bigger.

My advice - try everything you can get your hands on before you buy - it will save you money and heartache in the long run.

@lacey
What do you mean exactly with 'a hard work type of board?

@Billboard:
Actually I was talking about the Riviera boards and not the Tuflite Surftech ones. I am also interested though in experiences in the surftech models. Was wondering if these designs were simular or were altered for the Surftech boards.
I agree the little darling / 8'10 model looks awesome.
Would be great if I could make that board work with my weight. (No possibility to test the board were I live.)

Any other users who could comment?

1 run between 88 to 90 kg pending beer intake I owned the Gerry 9-1 great board but I had to work the legs hard to stay on, it's only 27.5 wide , I tried the 8-10 and actually found it easier to paddle because it had a slightly wider tail but again still very hard work.

Yes it is do-able but on cross chop windy days at your weight you'll hate it.I traded my 9-1 on a 8-8 Ron House fish , I call this board my skate board it rips but again is too small at 28 x 4 but I just deal with it for the performace factor.I'm getting Dale Chapman to shape me an 8-11 version of the 8-8 which will be done under licence to Ron House it will be only slighty wider and thicker by an 1/8th, my other board is a Dale chapman 9-2 which is unreal and I can surf in all conditions no matter how windy.Hope that helps

hi, as far as i'm aware, greenline only imported ron house boards to oz. only 2 8 10's came in ,i owned i of them and sold to another guy on the goldie. the other went to sydney i think. what i meant by that comment is you have to set things up well and it will do every thing well. you would, imo, have to have a reasonable technique. that would be up to you to decide. hope that helps. pm me and i can talk to you by phone if you are keen
cheers
ps just realize you are along way from oz

Lacey,

Thanks for the offer and taking the time to respond. But I see you are a 'lightweight' with 78 kg ;o)).

Perhaps some of the heavier guys also tried it or the 9'6" surfmusic board. Still very interested in other opinions.

Thanks

Ran into Wayne Lynch yesterday he'd just come back from Mentawai's.
He'd been there for 2 1/2 weeks with Gerry Lopez. He said Gerry was ripping waves up to 10' on a quad SUB 6' something long.(I dont know if that length is accurate, they look shorter than they are when smallish)
Some pics would be nice
