Today in Melbourne was cool'ish but fine and sunny.. and very glassy.. ..and I hit St Kilda for my daily paddle.

I was maybe over dressed not expecting such great weather.

It was glassy as far as you could see and I was on my 11'6" AST.. I should have taken my Glide today.

I caught up with Mick and he was on my old Cobra windsurfer board.

We paddled way out into the bay and headed towards a yellow marker buoy.

Mick gets a phone call.. What a nice place to call your office..

We found another funny looking buoy.. One that I'd never seen before.

The things that you find floating around on a glassy day is amazing.. Imagine hitting this lump of wood on a windsurfer.. or speedboat.

We headed back towards the city and St Kilda marina.

We spotted a boat leaning at an odd angle in the maria.

Checked out the black swans... Beautiful.. all three..

No idea.. It seems every few weeks we see one sunk like this.. Maybe a slow leak turns into a big leak and down she goes..

Great photos. Great conditions.

What are the deciding factors when choosing the Glide or the AST?

Nice pics DJ , that black beacon means "Danger Submered Object" don't come close , so something must have recently sunk there.

Your old wind surfer looks like a great flat water board.

"What are the deciding factors when choosing the Glide or the AST? "

Casso... Sometimes it's just the first board that I grab but I do paddle my AST about 80% of the time because when I paddle around St Kilda I am always getting asked... What's that that you're doing?.. It looks hard.. I looks like fun.. Can I have a go?.. etc.. etc.

I'm always letting stranger's have a go of my board and it's often tourist (unfortunately, for the local shops) and I'd rather them tap the rails and bump into rocks with the AST rather than my Glide that I mostly paddle on down-winders and the odd race.

Here's some pics from today when these two girls asked if they could have a go.. How could I refuse..

Thanks Piros that's good to know..

Robbo so many of these boats look ok from a distance but once you get close some are in shocking condition and not been sailed for years.

It's no wonder that some sink.. Here's a few more pics from today showing what I mean.

While I'm at it I might as well post a few more pictures from today.. It was even better than yesterday.

There has been so many fairy penguins around lately.

Lots of Banjo's.

But lots of rubbish unfortunately.. I scoop out most that I see.

I paddled over to what I thought was a red ball floating in the water but was surprised to find these flowers floating way out in the middle of nowhere.

Jeeez I love Autumn..

I then paddled back to St Kilda marina and checked out the local black swans.

I then met these two girls that wanted to have a go at SUP for their first time and I said sure, just roll up your jeans a bit and you won't fall off.. they did great and loved it.. It was perfect conditions for learning.

The girls wanted pics taken with the local brown guys that hang out at St Kilda pier... and then wanted a pic with me..

I love these photo stories.

One of the brown guys has plaster on the inside of his elbow where he had blood taken that morning.

Old brown guys, old boats, they both sink eventually.

Luv ya work DJ
Your ornithological pics are always interesting.
Swans,Chicks,Penguins you've covered all the species.
My wife says I shouldn't giggle when I see your pretty girl pics as it only encourages him.(I say I'm just reading the dialogue.)
PS Why do humans think Swans are so beautiful that they have to put big ugly numbers around their necks.Sometimes humans don't know when to leave well enough alone.
Keep it coming
