Jonathon was on his new 14' Starboard Ace (the skinny one) and I was on my new 14' Glide.

And the winner is.. Remember downwinding is not a race.. .. This is how the the DW run went.

Note to myself.. Watch out for the pole next time..

The acceleration of the Ace from that angle is amazing. You can see the tail lift slightly and it just takes off.

Wasn't it Glide v Ace v Ace ?
Vid shows a great runner caught by Jonathan at the end,
and then that pole things like 3d without the glasses

That starboard looked impressive ... how heavy were the pilots?

More like Glide vs Ace vs Where's Cam?

In other words, just a regular DW.

When you say new skinny ace do you mean it is new to Jonathon and a downsize from his old one or one of the new 2013 23' wide aces?

I'm 95kgs and JC is about 65 I think.. but he's like the energizer bunny.. ..and he's on his new Ace (2012) Ace that I think is 25" wide ..

I think Starbie do three widths.. 25/27/29.. Ooops.. No they don't.. Thanks PT.

No only 25 and 27 in 2012. They don't do a 29 and there will not be a 29 in 2013. No-one needs a 29 Ace.

I am 102kgs and I have the 27" x 14' Starboard ACE, and it IS just that... ACE. The 27" gives just that bit more stability, although I did post one of my faster times on the 25" x 14' in the board tests, but not sure how it would handle 102kgs in DW conditions.

Haven't done a DWer on the 27" yet, but from what I have experienced so far, I can imagine it will be a hoot, with the extra volume in the tail to push you down the runners!

Great video as always DJ. Your camera mount is awesome to produce the end result, by the way what "f" setting on the GoPro are you using?

It's the old Go Pro HD 1 and even with the wide angle lens the lack of horizon distortion is because I have the horizon close to the center of the picture... I don't know what the f setting is.. I think it's setting 3 whatever that is.. I'll get back to you once I know.

I've been asked by a few people what the mount looks like now because I've changed it quite a few times over the last six months or more and rather than take a couple of pictures I made this short vid.. It is very solid now and has almost no wobble like my early attempts.. I can still change things if I like by swapping tubes or changing angles but I think this is pretty good.. It's a bit lower than before and that helps with the wobble.. The tapeing takes about 10-15 minutes to put on and about 30 seconds to take off.. The complete rig has survived a tumble sideways across the sand when hit with a gust on the beach and also my little pole hitting thing in this vid.. I tend to forget that it's even there once I'm off paddling and doesn't effect my balance much at all.. Next I will try two or three cameras running at the same time and at different angles to mix up the views and edit it all together.. I can use roll bar type mounts to attach them it it.. Maybe one pointing back and one sideways.. I think the mount is solid enough to hold the weight of more camers.. If Jonathan can come up fast from behind .. Go past with speed.. and continue on ahead at speed .. Or even me coming up on someone from a distance.. Passing.. and then looking back will show the great speed difference and also the great distance traveled once a few runners are linked together on a good day it will look better with more cameras.

That rig is amazing - love the angle and more cams might work really good.

I gather you don't have a plate at the bottom, each leg is taped on?

No.. I originally had flat feet at the ends of the legs that sat flat on the deck.. but that's where I was getting most of my wobble from.. When one of them broke off I cut off all the legs so the angle on the tubes match the angle of the deck.. so it's more solid now.. There just a layer or two of tape between the end of each leg and the surface of the board.
