I have a dedicated surf GO Pro mount on my surfboard but don't really want to put one on my shiny new SUP as once they are on, they are on for life.

I don't use it much but wouldn't mind getting a bit of footage at various times

Just wondering if there is any way of installing a Go Pro mount on a removable / temporary basis?

Anyone got any ideas?

Find a board repairer/shaper and get him to fit an fcs plug/box thingy into front of board. The surf GoPro pack has the thingy that fits into the box thingy. I got a quote of $60 last year. Hope that helps.

Just use that 4" square black plastic mount that the camera came mounted on in the original packaging and duct tape it where you want it on the board and peal the tape off and remove it when you don't want it.. The tape will hold.. even in the surf.

I recently cut my black plastic mount so I can use it on my board.. or on my paddle.

I was nervous about the sticky mounts on a board but after watching them go over and over and over the falls on Storm Surfers i reacon they are bullet proof.

DJ I reckon you have more faith in gaffa tape than I do. Unfortunately I no longer have that black plastic bit, chucked it out when I got the camera last year.

Was thinking about sticking one of the smaller standard mounts (not the big white surf one) onto the SUP but was trying to avoid a permanent mount if possible. FCS plug sounds like a good idea but not sure if theres enough thickness in the nose of the sup to take this and it's probably also a bit exxy. Might just have to bite the bullet and get another surf mount I think.

Thanks for the ideas.

DJ ,with regard to the duct tape in the surf your've had no problems with it coming lose ,and did you rap the tape round the board ?

I want to put a removeable attachment on my daughters nipper board.I still have the attachment from the box .

You can take the sticky surf-mounts off a board using a Stanley knife and carefully cutting away at at the glue until it loosens. It leaves no marks what so ever.

I haven't found a good way of reapplying them though...

Maybe you have the older style - the newer version is quite a bit smaller. JB HiFi have them at $29.00

Use 3M tape - can get exact spec if you need it.

In the movie it looked like they were just using the standard black mounts.

Just finally managed to film something and transfer it to my computer. Now to try and film something better

If you decide to take off one of the mounts, you can always get some new 3M VHB 4991 adhesive tape and try to reapply it.

I've found the adhesive mounts are strong enough to handle most surf as long as you put them on a clean surface and let them set for 24 hours before you use them. And the good thing about them is you can get them off your board if you ever want to remove them.

If you are looking for ideas about where to mount your GoPro, I've got a lot of different mounting options in my book on Amazon How To Use GoPro Cameras: The Surf Edition. http://www.amazon.com/How-Use-GoPro-Cameras-ebook/dp/B008PII27M

It's geared towards ocean sports and almost all of the mounting options are applicable for a SUP.

Have fun and keep paddling!

Also, the smaller surf mounts work fine. And they have the separate leash mount for backup which is nice to have.

Make sure to use the Floaty Backdoor just in case. Otherwise the GoPro cameras sink quickly.

Fishing line either side of the mount gets the mounts off easily with no fuss btw.
