If I had a dollar for every goatboater that had a go on my SUP board and said..That's it..I'm getting one and selling my surfski..I'd have at least..3 dollars..

Today I met up with this guy (Peter) as I was heading off on my daily paddle and I said that I might join him seeing he was headed off in the same direction.

He said "Do you think you can keep up on that thing..because I'm on a training run..and I'm going way out and around the breakwater"..I said 'Yeah..I think so'...and we headed off.

We'd only been paddling a few minutes and he was splashing about while I just cruised along effortlessly....and we started to talk..I soon realized that he couldn't talk that easy because he was so puffed trying to keep up with me..

We slowed and he caught his breath and said..Jeeez..Those things really move don't they.

I said would you like to have a go and he said sure..I'd love to...I suggested we head over to the little beach at the pier and he could have a go.

After adjusting my paddle for him..and running through a few basics..he was off on my board..I said take your time..I'm in no hurry.

He paddled around the boats and came back..I said you can go for longer if you like and he said thanks..This is fantastic..I want one..and he headed off again.

He eventually came back and said that he loves my board..with the woodgrain and all..and wants to get one just like it..btw..I was on my 11'6" Naish.

So..I think goatboats will be going cheap if this keeps up....I took these pics today of Peter on my board.

Yeah...I did miss one day..maybe two....and it's been like this for a few years now...So why do I still fall in sometimes..

I guess it has replaced my cycling and stuff like that.

I love it.......I just need to get down the coast more.

The ski appears to have a lot of rocker and not a lot of length. They might be some reasons. Looks like it would be fairly wide too.

I've been paddling a Windsurfer hull lately. It is 3.66m (12'2") and 66cm (25.9") wide making it a bit tippy.

First few paddles was with the centreboard down all the time, but now centreboard down mainly in chop. I think it gets along OK and I would probably like to compare it to a dedicated SUP, but I haven't seen anyone else in Sydney Harbour on a SUP yet to compare with.

I use a Naish aluminium/fibreglass paddle. As I'm only 5'8" (171cm) it appears to be the right size.

I like the exercise and just getting out on the water. I also find it compliments windsurfing as I find SUP has sharpened my balance when I sail.

We get a fair few SUP'ers up at Palm Beach, Pittwater on the weekends or you can go and join Sam at Collaroy on Saturday mornings.

Nobody...My old board was a NSP 11' x 26" large mal surfboard.

My new Naish is 11'6" x 30" and the two are like chalk and cheese..

The Naish is sooo much faster and sooo much more stable..It does every thing better..No matter how good you are at SUP'ing.

There is so much more to a board other that length and width..Rail shape, thickness, rocker, deck shape, outline, fins etc..all make a big difference.

Once you do a demo you will see what I mean..You will also be surprized at how light these SUP boards are.

Good luck with it...Once you get hooked you'll be hoping for no-wind days....Or SUP in the morning before the wind come up..and sail in the arvo's..
