Hi all, new to the forums here but I had an experience earlier today that I wanted to share.
I was sup'ing on a bank about 100 metres south of a very popular north Wollongong long boarders spot when I hear a "plop - Plop" next to me. I look up and there are 2 guys standing on the point hitting golf balls at me! one missed my head by about a metre. I got out of the water and walked over to the guys to see what their problem was. they had a go at me because I am apparently a kook for stand up paddling. I have been on a SUB for a year now and surfed since I was 4, I kite and spear and ocean swim as well and it really got to me that these 2 Neanderthals would try to kill me (a golf ball to the head would do some damage) just for doing something that they cant. Sorry but had to get it off my chest as it made me a bit angry!

If they are locals and you can recognise them again and see them again (ie. they can be found and identified) then report it to the police.
The cops won't do much but if it happens again and there are multiple reports then there's a chance you can charge them with assault.
I have never experienced any aggro in the surf but I get very uncomfortable reading these reports.
It's all fine to be a rough tough guy and stand up for yourself but you shouldn't have to do it. It is completely unacceptable to have to resort to violence or to endure violence or threats of any kind.
There's no such thing as a bit of harmless biffo. There are numerous cases of people being killed because some moron decided to give them a whack for some real or imagined insult.
How absurd would it be if the rare incidences become normal. See yuo later dear. I'm going surfing because it is fun and healthy and one of the most beautiful things a human can do. I'll be home later ... if some criminal doesn't decide to attack me.

I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as it sounds. It's still bad to hear about it though.

sorry to hear that, it su xs big time. imagine the pain of one of those projectiles hitting any part of your body and the possible on going damage. makes me shudder. I had kids throwing mussels at me off Sandridge pier that they were using for bait then jerk ski riders nearby started harassing me. Its all jealousy they can't handle it when someone is having fun, I told the jerk ski riders to go and give someone else the irrates like they usually do.

I'm actually staying at Thirroul for the weekend so I'm glad I know not to head to Bells (wherever it is).

i once had this goose from DV8 longboarders club try and front up to me out the farm one day when they were having one of their pathetic point scores in one foot puss.
'you still out here ya fruckwit' he whined, after i'd been cruising up and down the beach for a few hours catching waves and minding my own business.
'are you seriously that much of a moron that you see me out here and have to paddle up to me and ask me am i still out here...?' was my reply
'yeah, we'll see how much of a smart ass you are when we bash you on the beach ya dumb cant' were his next words of wisdom.
'which am i, a smart ass or a dumb cant' i enquired
'a fruckin dead cant' he retorted chest out amidst his fellow 50 year old flailing competitors.
'hmmm' i said, 'so you mean to tell me, as a representitve of your club and as you sit there in your clubs competition singlet, that you and your fellow club members are threatening to bash me'
'yeah you're fruckin dead cant' responded this tubby simpleton
'ok, so here we are in a state recreation area, your club has had to seek permission from the parks governing board to be able to conduct your point score here and its done under the proviso that you cannot make any part of any area of this park exclusive to your own interests including any delusions you might have of sole rights to a competition area, besides frucktard, its a weekend and on weekends this place is a zoo, especially when its one foot and dribbling'
'yeah you keep catching all the sets in the competition area dumb cant, fruck off or we'll bash ya' he rudely interupted
'ah, ah, ah, let me finish mr mouth breather' i interjected,' there are twenty plus people listening here to you very verbally threating me and you've made your clubs intentions of doing me harm very clear here both to me and to these twenty or more witnesses, do you think the parks board would allow your club to hold any further point scores or competitions here once they find out that DV8 board riders club is threating harm and intimidating general members of the public and trying to strong arm its interests of exclusivity...?'
i watched his brow furrow and mouth drop open further as he tried to comprehend what i was getting to
'what about any legal liabilities the parks board might find themselves open to having given permission for this type of intimidation and violence to occur..?'
still nothing from him
'or even the "anti bikie" legislation being passed through at the moment, it pertains to all social clubs you understand, not just closet homos with prison tats in leather on moto-bikes' i furthered.
'i take the threats you have just made against me very seriously, and i am making you aware of my intentions to now leave the water because of the threats you have made towards me and after i leave the water my first course of action will be to report this incident to the parks ranger and ask for him to call the police as i very much now fear not only for my own safety but that of the other park users here today, can i please ask you for your name..?'
'i'm not telling you who i am,who the fark to you think you are, some lawyer or somethin'
'actually' i said 'they call me the doctor, and you sir are the one who's just ruined it all for your club here today'
'just cool it ####*' came an appeal from one of the other competitors.
*-- i can't remember his name but it was kinda girly and there was quite a bit of laughter from the audience that had been listening when i pointed out that this guy had an unusualy girly name for a fifty year old bloke.
i paddled back to the car park and began to get changed.
i was putting my board in the van when a couple of guys from the competition area came up to me and very embarrasingly tried to appologise for their club mates actions. they made it very clear that he was the only one who had a problem with the way i was surfing and it wasn't that i was catching all the waves it was more that i was the only able to catch the waves as it really was one foot and dribbling. they explained to me how they told this guy to pull his head in or he's not welcome at point scores anymore.
so we had a bit of a laugh about how it just totally blew up in his face, and how he was too embarrassed tp come up and appologise himself and how his actions had pretty much ostracised him from the club from then on.
i even got one of the guys to agree that maybe a point score at such a populated spot was maybe not such a good idea and that they should probably hold it at one of the other less crowded beaches in the area in the future..
funny thing is, this was months and months ago and i don't think they've been back
