I've just got a Gopro hero 3 black for my birthday.

Had a bit of a play today with it paddling in Mindarie marina.

Just trying to figure out the gopro studio now.

I think in my frantic clicking and not really reading the manual before I started this morning I may have filmed not in the best settings.

How to you set your camera?

Resolution, frame rate etc.

Cheers

Your settings will depend on what you want to do with the video, how big your SD card is and how long you want the battery to last.

Mine's on 1080, 48 FPS Wide Angle with Protune on. Don't use protune unless you're going to use gopro studio or other software that can do the colour correction. Battery lasts about 1.5 hours (max) with this setting, but you chew up heaps of space on the sd card - I think mine's a 32Gb one which lasts for a whole battery.

You could easily get away with 720 res, 30 FPS and save on battery and memory life with minimal impact on your videos.

I usually dump a session's video onto my computer, clip out anything of value and immediately ditch the rest so my computer doesn't get filled up.

I have mine on 120FPS with 1080. This is more an experimental setting as I am not sure how much better the film will be. I reckon its all a bit of a case of trial and error.

Thanks. Think more experimenting needs to be done.

There are a heap of great users on here that have heaps to teach you when they put stuff up as well. I reckon the experimenting is easily the best bit of the whole experience.

1/ Download the firmware update from the Gopro site and up date your camera even if it's brand new , if you camera freezes or does something strange do it again , it will fix the problems. The Blacks were born with a bug.

2/ Set it to PAL watch this to learn how:-

3/ Stay away from Protune (play with that later) it's a memory eater plus you have to put all you colour back in post production (it is a Pro Tool)

All my blacks are set to 1080 x 50 fps that is a PAL setting , 60fps is NTSC , 24fps is NTSC , 25fps is PAL. (Don't have a NTSC fps for a PAL setting)

1080 x 50 is a pretty high setting for quality but thats what I use plus it gives silky smooth slomo if you want it in post production. If you just want to post videos on the web like DJ on this site 720 x 25 or 50 is fine , it's alot faster to download and edit. If you use 25 fps when you slow it down it won't be smooth. The smaller the frame rate the faster it loads and uses less space on your memory card and your computer.

Good Luck just keep playing with and film in good light for best results.
