No.. It's the old (non HD) Gopro using the sucker mount instead of the helmet mount shown here.

I was going pretty slow through the gap in the reef at Green Point and I went across some floating seaweed (kelp) and wasn't sure if the fin (rudder) would slide across or though it but it just stopped the board suddenly.. I was half ready for that unexpected leap rather than load the rudder and risk damage.. Yesterday the 17 was flying along like a steam train and it was non stop surfing runners and nose poking.. Having the camera mounted on the nose area created so much drag when the nose did poke and it didn't slice through like a hot knife through butter like it normally does.. The wind was about 30 knots with some higher gusts and it was much rougher than it looks in the vid.

Good vid.

But hearing the Alabama 3 just reminds me of Tony Soprano driving down the Pulaski Skyway in New Jersey.

Good to hear no damage done then. I imagine the rudder on the 17' would collect weed cause of its shape, do Naish do any other rudder styles for the 17' or is that it?

Cool vid - plenty of comedy. Were you by yourself? If so, do you catch a taxi back to your car or something?

Yesterday there was Pete, Paul and myself and the day before the same with Jonathan and Oliver.. We always get at least two or three so the car shuffle is not a problem.. It's even better now with Jonathan's DW'er trailer.. The usual run (St Kilda to Sandy) takes about an hour and a half (with the odd stop) with our fastest non stop runs being about an hour even.. That's about the same time as the Maliko run..

I'm sure this summer we'll get 10-20 people along on the good DW days (if they're on the w/e).

Oooh.. I just thought of a new camera angle to try.. .. Friday is looking good so I'll give it a test run then..

hey dj, another breezer and myself were talking about the amount of dw er's you guys get and the way you can seem to make just about any wind direction work. the runners look alright despite some of the locals saying they are too close together and chopy. the naish 17 fits in doesn't? the bay is looking like the dw capital of oz. spill the beans and give us the low down
no much been happening up here for a while
cheers

I don't think it's true that any wind direction works on Port Phillip Bay. At least not yet. But there are evil plans afoot to test the theory.

The weather here in Melb goes in regular cycles and the highs come and go.. As they move across from the west we get a south-west wind until the high is over us and we get a couple of still glassy days.. then as the high passes we get a strengthening north wind until the next high moves in and the wind turns south-west again.

Some times a low or high will sit over NZ and block the high moving and so we can get a few days in a row of either north.. or south-west wind.. Soooo once the good down-winding days have gone (the northerlies) we only have to wait a few days and they're back again.

Sometimes our north wind starts with a little nor-east in it and then goes true north and then turns into a slight nor-west before the change.. All these work for us here on the bay.. Also I think that because the wind starts dead off shore and runs parallel with the coast line we don't get any confused swells mucking things up.
