Looks like current Northerlies on the Goldy are going to swing more to the East by the weekend. Possibly light ESE breeze Sunday morning, turning more Southerly throughout the day. Swell looks like increasing to 1.5 - 2m, so could be an interesting start for the race.

Yes looks like there will be surf this weekend. Looks like being a magic day. Thanks Hughie.
If there is a sea running we will do a beach start.

Keep those entries rolling in.
You can get a beach start as well. Its only $10
All monies raised by Kirra surfstock are to be distributed between Kirra Surf Life Saving Club, Kirra Surfriders Club, Kirra Point Inc and the Surfrider Foundation. There is no personal gain to anyone involved.
So bring down a friend or two and they can support the cause by taking part in the Denis Callinan Memorial Beach Walk if they arn't into the paddle.

Heaps of entries coming in for the race tomorrow. A quiver caddy will be on hand to help bring up boards at Kirra, and also a tent to store them with access for collecting after race presentations.

Race set to start at 8.30am, if you can get to south side of Elephant Rock by 7.30 to sign in/enter. The earlier start the better for conditions. If wind swings more southerly, last gasp into Kirra should be more protected, but winds look like staying between 5-8 knots ESE up till 10am.

Depending on conditions, could be anywhere from 2-200 sweepers on deck (There could be some last minute pikers)

Tough conditions this morning with stronger ESE winds than forecast.
Had a few wimp out before the start.
Billy Watson 1st in just over 35 mins, Travis Grant 2nd and Troy Pease 3rd.
Jenny Ryan won the Women Greg 'Chilli' Beer the Over 40's and Josh Smith/Ben Kelly the Other division in a 2 man Kayak.
Sally Smith won the Green fancy dress and Simone Horsefield was awarded an encouragement trophy for her perseverance in the tough conditions.
Thanks to Scott and Greenline for their support.

what a race between billy and travis. i watched the start in conditions no one in their right minds would do outside a race. pulled up at balinga and watched with the glasses and then to kirra to see the finish. travis was right behind billy the whole way. both were paddling away like men possessed. i was wondering who would buckle. travis made a late charge at the buoy, but billy held him and got the first wave in. that was all that was in it. troy was really impressive at 3rd on a board he made. super paddling in really bad conditions- very inspiring stuff

ps everyone who finished the race deserves a gong. the whole race was against the wind, swell and current.

Massive effort from all who joined in the paddle today, whether they made the distance or not. Just getting out was mission enough with some decent size choppy slop waves coming in near Elephant Rock.

Congrats to Billy, Travis, and Troy, Jen and Sally, Greg, and all who finished.

Big thanks to Sean for organising, and all who helped out.

Huge effort from all involved.
Special mention to all the stragglers who spent longer on (or for some in) the water.
And to the volunteers who helped with registrations & safety a Mahalo

that it is,travis rang up the factory asking for a board, didn't blink an eyelid to lend it to him, as i knew it would really suit the conditions(very light) and i guessed billy and travis would be fighting it out

Dont forget it is 3rd hand - I think you are perhaps paying $1 too much but I guess its always gunna be that way - you big spenders crushing us minions who scrimp and save and try to make a fair offer and all I was trying to do was help poor old lacy out. I am deeply offended sir !!!

Judging by recent posts I think Dogman needs another board for the Armada.

I expect my bid to be gazumped - $501 + 1/2 a pie

Didn't the DC come second. If its so fast why are you selling it. What about the winning board, was it a Lahui Kai

the winning board- lahui kai. i brought the board of just wrong,i liked the lightness and extra volume in it from the normal 12'6. the thing actually doesn't surf to bad either. this was a fill in board as i'm keen to put a few of my own idea's into a board. i'm not overtly worried about selling, if it goes,it goes. if doesn't, i still have a very good board

Needs to be mentioned that the winning board (Lahui Kai), second (DC), and third (Peasi Special) are all made on the Gold Coast. First woman in also on DC 12'6.

Says something about our local shapers knowledge and experience, and the results at Battle of the Paddle shows it's not just local conditions they work in.

This is not to take anything away from the amazing paddlers who were on these boards. I'm sure even if I was on one of these boards, I still would have been half an hour behind them at the finish line.
