I've noticed over the past couple of years there has been one or two SUP's taking part in the Hawkesbury Classic. What are the chances of seeing a few more this year?
The event is a hard enough sitting down but standing up for 15 or more hours is a huge feat of endurance.

Last year there were 5 of us who undertook it, for the 3 years previous there had only been 2. Unfortunately I don't think I will be making it back for my third race. First year (2011) I did it in 15:35 missing the race record by 2:30, so being slightly stubborn had to go back last year to try and beat it. Managed to do last years race in 12:30 with Ben Brown about 15 minutes behind.

This is a fantastic race and so well organised for the size of it. Such a great experience paddling through the night and at times you look down the river and you see all these glow sticks bobbing away.

If it is a challenge you are after this a great way to push yourself.

Seriously looks like fun. Back in the days when I was pushing the Ks bushwalking I was disappointed not to have got into adventure racing. This looks like another one not to miss.

When I get together with the right people I will discuss getting a team happening.

What are the dates for this years event?

I did it last year and really enjoyed it. Would love to get back in the future to try and better my time with a bit of experience behind me. Though can't this year unfortunately.

This year the event is on the 26th & 27th October, just over 6 months away. It's not a long time to plan and train for an event like the Hawkesbury Classic.

Check out the Facebook page for race updates
