Last year Stuart Murray and Inoke Tuhukava took this on for the first time on a 14ft Vortice and a 12ft HoloHolo with both finishing around the 17hr mark. This year the SUP division is official and entries are now open.

The event is on the 24/25th October.

The Hawkesbury Canoe Classic is a fun paddle with a serious purpose. Each year around 600 paddlers travel 111 km overnight in the moonlight, down the Hawkesbury River from Windsor to Brooklyn, to raise money for charity.

Over the years the race has build into a great community event, with paddlers, their landcrew and hundreds of volunteers converging on the banks of the Hawkesbury at Windsor on the day of the race to enjoy the camaraderie and spirit the race has built.

The race has an excellent safety record, with the long-term health of paddlers over-riding any other considerations.

The first paddlers leave Brooklyn at 4:00pm on Saturday and pass 18 safety checkpoints during the night. The fastest craft arrive at Brooklyn in less than 10 hours, but the average time is closer to 15 hours.

The Classic has been run since 1977 and is made possible by volunteers who put in hundreds of hours of time throughout the year, landowners who allow us the use of their land for the weekend and the paddlers and their support crews.

The Classic has raised more than $3 million for medical research, with our major charity being the Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation.

Could you do it as a teams event.. like say 2 or 3 paddlers all sharing the load of the race?

It would be great if we could and would certainly encourage more SUP'pers to give it a go. Do it as a relay-type paddle with changeovers at each checkpoint. Other craft can do it as a team in the one boat so relay style for SUP's would seem fair. Might need to email the event organiser to find out.

Anyone from QLD keen to head down and give it a try?

I'd be into doing it (especially as a relay) if there was a suitable board available.

Still haven't scraped up the $ for a race board.

Just did some maths....

15hrs for 111km = approx 7.5km per hr...

18 health stations = 6km appart... therefore including fatigue... about 1hr per stint...

say 3 paddlers per team thats 6 stints of about a 1hr solid paddle with 2hr break... can be done...

id be keen to give it a go if i had the right board... anyone else?

Mate only on a downhill bike! So the SUP equivalent is racing on your 9'3!!

The relay is a really good idea. We are talking to some event organsiers about races so we will plant the relay idea in there as well!

I might be up for a relay - as long as beer is involved somewhere

At the END! It'd be deserved!

Be good to get a few teams in on the relay!
