Just wondering how many of you use head protection (Gath helmet etc) while surfing your SUP?

I've surfed (short & longboards) for 30+ years and never worn head protection but as SUPs are heavier/more cumbersome I'm contemplating wearing a helmet when conditions aren't great.

Interested in how many of you do wear them, and if so, do you wear them all the time or only when the surf is bigger than a couple of foot?. Thanks

I normally wear a gath, unless it's small & windless. Went out last week without it (was small, but decent offshore breeze), just as I popped my head up I copped the board right on top of my head! Luckily it hit flat, but gave me a bit of a lump & sore neck.

Habits of windsurfing - where I nearly always wear one (plus I use it for sun protection, the dome burns fast).

Ive been thinking about it for the bigger stuff , particualry now i only really ride bigger boards. Was lucky a month or so back I didnt knock myself out , my 14 wacked me in the head , broke my tooth , egg on the head really sore neck Was groggy for a bit too. Could save your bacon , wouldnt bother in small stuff.

I've been wearing a gath since my fins hit me in the head at the start of this year. I wasn't to keen at first mainly because it looks like you've got a ball stuck to your head, then I attached a cap to it & now it looks better & keeps the sun off your face as well.

It really hurts when a sup hits you in the head, I'd rather avoid it happening again!
