Hi guys after my wife tried SUP whilst over in amalfi for the first time she is hooked and wants her first board. I have surfed all my life and have had the blessing of having a father who builds hardwood timber longboards and SUP boards and have rode alot of different boards but never really got into SUP. So to pick a first board for her I am at a lose. While in amalfi she was just riding a nasty epoxy hire board I would say around 10'6" but didn't look at dimensions was definitely not any bigger she only fell off once over an hour or so and was very comfortable. She weighs around 65 kg and is very balanced. I was initially looking at boards in the 10'6" mark but on looking at the volume of most of these around 170l it seems like alot. Do you think she would get away with a 10' board. This will not be used for surfing(by her) mainly just paddling around relatively flat waters around Mackay. Any help would be great

from a ladies perspective the issue I've found is carrying the board, getting on/off the car, and when the wind picks up carrying the board. i'm the same weight as your wife and only surf sup but started with a 9'6 x 29 3/4 and 4.75 and I could have a party on it balance wise. Flat water it is slower to paddle than a bigger 10' or bigger board and noticeable trying to keep up with longer boards paddling between breaks.
if you have the budget $'s I've got the Sunova Style 10' which is amazingly light with a brilliant carry handle and lighter than my 8'6 SU
