No. But hernia's run in boys in our family. I've never had one. From what I understand about hernias, you may have had an existing condition, or hernia waiting to happen. I can understand how SUP'ing or surfing could bring one on.

Edit - if you are currently in pain, it could be worth going to emergency.

Have seen the doc and he reckons it is a small one and just to keep any eye on it at this stage until next year and it can wait to fit it in around my surfing adventures I have coming up. No pain just bit of discomfort

dam if its not sharks trying to eat us, or global warming trying to drown us its a war within our bodily organs blowing up and causing pain. Crap I hate getting old.

Hi mmm. I just happen to be getting mine fixed on Thursday. Wasn't caused by SUP but not sure if it has made it a little worse. The SUP action puts pressure in the stomach area and if there is a tear there it could try to force it open. The times I feel any discomfort is when prone paddling on my surfboard especially wearing a wetsuit or when paddling for a wave on my SUP that I have to put extra effort eg if I feel I am going to miss the wave. Don't do what I have done and leave it for years. it will slowly get bigger. cheers

gregc. I'm with you. Going in to hospital for my first time I am feeling that everything is out to get me. Can't SUP or surf until after Xmas. Will just get fatter then my arteries will want some attention I suppose.

Hernia ops are eazy breezy.

I had one at 23 from squatting 150+kgs, wearing a weight belt at the time so it all the pressure went to my lower stomach when lifting and subsequently caused a blow out. I got it fixed straight away
Best thing about the recovery is the meds, good times.
Worst thing is actually realising how much you use actually your stomach muscle for everything you do, wait till after the op, you wont be able to sneeze or cough without wincing in pain and you can forget about trying to squeeze out a fart.

6 weeks later your back in business but. Good luck with your ops anyway boys, you'll be fine.
