I am wanting to enter this event but noticed that the stock size for boards was 12 ft. In ISA Rules Stock boards for SUP is 12'6.

Can someone clear this up for me? Are they referring to paddle boards - or have I just brought something I can not use.

From what I can tell you can enter your board in the unlimited division.

I can't see that anyone riding a 12'6 is really going to want to go up against an 18ft board in the unlimited class.

Taking into account that the Glide is 12ft but the Star Board Pin is 12'6" I am guessing there is still a bit of confusion about what length board is the cut off for unlimited. The Maui International Paddleboard Championships had the classes as up to 13ft and unlimited.

This is from the ISA site for SUP:

Race Craft & Specifications:
1. 12'6" Class Board
Maximum length - 12'6"
Maximum width - 33 inches
Fixed Fin, no rudder
2. 14' Class Board
Maximum length - 14 feet
Maximum width - 30 inches
Minimum weight - 20 lbs [subject to review]
Fixed Fin, no rudder
3. Open Class Board
Minimum length - 14 feet, 1 Rudders allowed.

Full ISA rules can be found here - http://www.isasurf.org/files/ISARulebook1.26.09.pdf

I guess all you can do is make the organisers aware of what classes are being run at other events and the rules listed on any international association website with the hope that they will run to them and offer some level of standardisation.

Probably a typo, am sure it will follow same lines as Malfunction, 12'6 and under class and then an unlimited class.

What's the outcome on this 12'.. 12'6" thing.. Did anyone ring them and confirm the rules.

It seems a bit odd that they are making up their own rules different to everyone else.

I think it will stay at 12 ft and under.

This is the 3rd year running so they had the classes set before the rules come out.

So not sure if they will change it...

This is really giving me the sh!ts , firstly I could'nt race at Noosa on my 16 footer because there was no unlimited division , so now I have sold that my 16 and had a 12'6 built which I pick up on Thursday and now if I want to race it I have to go up against the unlimted boards. F.M.D

There are heaps of stock boards between 12-0 and 12-6 why can't we just stick to the divisions that have already been set.

This is f**king ridiculous and I'm p!ssed off.

Marty I'm nothing to do with the shop it's just my mates , I pay for my boards like everyone else thats why I've got the sh!ts over the 12-6.

Dale has 3 of these boards on order so it looks like I won't be the only one in this situation.

No worries Marty I'll just making it clear to everyone that it's not my shop , I spoke to Dale Chapaman he is going to give Guy a call and see if the 12-6 boards can be used in the stock division , if they can't I'll just cop it on the chin and race unlimited as I've sold my 16.

Piros/Woogie, put those hacksaws away you'll be happy to know that the Honolua race is 12'6 for stock class as confirmed by Guy@Honolua.
DC sent me a 3d model of your board and it looks very sweeet!

Piros , what are the design features of Dale Chapmans boards , compared to Stuey C boards?Or to phrase it another way which is faster?

The fastest will be the naish glide and that's only 12 foot so i hope every one gives me 6 inches head start I did do a 5 km hard paddle the other day on the glide against my 17 footer and far enough there was a CHICK on my big board but she dose paddle hard and to my surprise i beat her and i was on the glide i did have to work harder but still it felt like a smooth board and hopefully can match the speed of these custom built boards..

I thought Woogie had retired!!!!!! and this was a board for ME to play on - it is also easier when we have to travel to get more boards on the roof. The 18.9' felt like a airplane wing and we were taxiing down a runway

I was just about to drive the board into a tree to shave off the 6 inchs but thank goodness I read this post first

So Jacko you're racing in the sub 12-6 division as well , I was doing this to get away from you and woogie.Mate forget the 6 inches start you'll need to give me 6mins start , whats Jake racing ? is anyone racing the big boards....this could be Dales race especially after his epic Byron to Gold Coast paddle of Friday almost 70kms

Piros , what are the design features of Dale Chapmans boards , compared to Stuey C boards?Or to phrase it another way which is faster?

I've only seen an autocad drawing of this board , it has a scooped deck and square tail it looks nothing like the Glide and I have'nt seen Stuey's but it is a flat bottom planing board which will make it very different to Stueys board , I had no input into this board I left it up to Dale , he has been putting in huge miles on his own race boards like the Byron paddle so I totally trust his judgement.

I just finished shaping Woogies new board today and it too has a way scooped out deck and a square tail, it still features a full displacement bottom though. I made a square on this one as it just fits in better on a board of this size and I thought it was the way to go......

Come on Jacko, i've got no chance against you, 17 footer or not. Surely beating me wasn't that surprising!

Still I reckon the glide will be hard to beat in the 12'6" and under class, as long as there's a good engine on board, even if they don't give us that 6 inch head start.

Dale and I paddled on 2 DC16 boards. We did some test runs in some big downwinders on a few different hull shapes. We both agreed that the one model was the pick of the bunch and settled on that shape. They absolutly love the runs and feel pretty comfortable out there in the big seas.

The first 2 hrs of the paddle were pretty hectic with a strong offshore right on our side. The wind and swell were crossing at 90 degrees so it was tough going. Once out of the bay (near Ocean Shores) things started getting better. By Cabarita/Kingcliffe things started lining up nicely and the boards came into their own.

It took us 8hrs and we did it at a fairly safe comfortable pace. Dale recorded it all on his GPS so it will be interesting to plot it all out.

If you want to check out the design go to Dale's factory and I am sure he will be glad to show you. We have a few other things we want to experiment with so they will only get better with time. The new 12'6" looks pretty good and it will be great to give it a test drive.

Whatever you paddle make sure that you remember to have fun.
