Hi, last summer i bought a 10ft Honu to paddle about on flat water ( i thought one day i might have taken it out in 1-2 ft burgers).

I'm 6ft 90kg and a above average surfer but on this thing i suck, i can cruise around put always feel tense and unbalanced.

After using 20 or so times over this and last summer i am wondering if the board is too small, a POS or is it just me?

Any thoughts?

Hola Senor Gringo! Como estas?I had a Honu 10' for a while. Just to use as a "lender" for bay paddling. Not a bad board...but I did note that for its size and apparent volume - it was not as stable as it could be - and I am way lighter than you, and was used to balancing on an 8' x 26" board without problem.. So, I would suggest its not really suited to larger people. However, that should really help you develop better balance I guess? I took it out in rather large surf a few times.... and had a bit of a laugh, as I tried to actually "surf" it... a lot of fun, but not designed for it. If you are an above average surfer.. its not always a given that you will have good balance on a SUP... that is not being propelled forward by a wave, giving far more stability. However, as I said.. you probably need to learn some new skills that apply to stand-up. Depending on where you want to go with it.... become a sup surfer or just a "paddler" on the lakes, river or seas... you certainly might want to try a more up market board than the Honu. Again... for the money.. the Honu's are fine... and I even sold mine for what I bought it for - but got to expect a lot of limitations and know you mostly get what you pay for...

We have a 10' Honu
Good for the young grandkids to play on in the bay and join in the extended family flat water paddle fun
Haven't used it in the surf so not sure how it goes

Thanks for all feedback, seems to be varying opinions.

I guess should get a lesson and ride something else, any recommendations on the Mornington Peninsula?

How much difference does the fin make for just flat water? Is there going to be any benefit putting in a bigger fibreglass fin compared to the cheap plastic one thats in it?
