We have a kid that's been suping for a few years - he is now 10 and 1/2 yo and he is lighting up our time-trials.

He is now averaging around 8.5km/h on our 1.5km and 1.9km TT's and about 8.2km/h on the 3km circuit.

He only weighs 31kgs and he's had a board specially made for him - it's a 10'9 x 19" scaled down version of the Coreban Phoenix. The board looks about right for him although he buries the nose a little when he puts his weight forward, so perhaps board is not 100% ideal for his weight - but looking at his times, I'd say its pretty impressive.

I'd be keen to hear if there are any other kids around that age managing similar speeds (none of our other kids can keep up with him)

His name is Cameron Tripney - and he is amping for suping!

Very cool. Haven't seen any groms who'd get near that locally.
I'd love to see more kids attacking the sport like that. Whether it's racing or surfing it's all good rather than just sticking with traditional sports like cricket, basketball etc.

I wonder if Candice Appleby and Anthony Vela have anyone in their Performance Paddling squad they have set up in the States. I had a good chat to the at last years's BOP and they were amazed at how it had spread and how keen kids were and that some parents were starting to see SUP as an alternative sport to Baseball, Football etc. Cost was always the hard thing for parents but when you line it up against new football (American football) gear every year it becomes pretty reasonable.
