It was quite a few years ago now Mark Paul (Bombora sailboards) said to me "You should see what they're all doing in Hawaii".."They're all out on these huge boards paddling in the waves with a very long paddle".."and the paddle has a funny bend on the end"
He thought it was dumb...I thought it was dumb.
But hey..these guys were Dave Kalama, Laird Hamilton, Mike Waltze etc...My hero's.
I started to think..If it's good for them it's good for me..and got my old wally out and made a paddle.
I remember the days of racing wallies and when there was no wind at all and the water was like glass..we used to stand on our boards with just a mast..holding it in the middle and using it like a two ended paddle..and we used to paddle around..and it was fun.
SUP...They are calling it the new fad that will not be going away..
