Got to give the guy some credit for not giving up too early, but seriously why would you bother for so long.

I believe the local ding repairer would have been watching and rubbing his hands together

Reminds me of a flogging off the rocks at Burleigh years ago.

Come on, we all have had a touchup on the rocks at sometime or another.....lets hear about yours!

Many years ago a cyclone swell at Burleigh, I was around 20 fit and on a 6.0 shortboard. To paint a picture the headland was full of folk, mostly people in oar of the swell and surfers thinking should I stay or should I go now and photographs snapping . Well I was one that said WTF I am out there. So the story goes like this, jump off the rocks at the cove. As I was waiting between sets I was standing on the rocks and the time was now, as I jumped off the rocks my leggie got caught on a rock behind me and I landed on the rocks with no board to paddle out on. The crowd started cheering at my expense, btw blood was coming out of everything and the board smashed on the rocks. I had no other way other than retreat up the rocks and face the crowd. Yep one of the most embarrassing moments of my life.

At least he had enough sense to NOT put his leash on.

Yeah but leaving it wrapped around the tail of his board was a bad move IMO.

He needed board speed and that's one sure way to slow you down.

BTW.. He did make it out on a later attempt... Nice looking gunnie board.

That didn't look like fun.

Last year when I was watching a couple of the guys out a Deadmans (Manly) there was a guy that had walked around the point and jumped out off the ledge with his shortboard - he didn't fair to well, leash on and in the end was swiming out with his board behind him trailing off his Leggie.

When I was 16 I jumped off the rocks at a south coast reef break when it was 6-8 foot and I turned around and saw my mate running back across the reef ledge to safety, turned around and copped a set on the head and got washed back up onto the rock ledge and rolled around a bit......not much fun at all.

Surely there's a nice gentle spot within 2-3 km that he could have just paddled out from. Avoid a flogging, take a leisurely paddle, arrive nicely warmed up, rip the waves to pieces ... or retire unhurt and at least have a decent paddle for his efforts.

What an idiot! I would have paid money to have watched this in person. Isnt there a boat ramp at Peahi where all the jet skis launch from?
