This race is catering for 2 divisions, Open Unlimited (Piros) and Up To 14ft and there will be prizes awarded for each division including sup surfing.

At the end an overall winner will be announced who has accumulated the best results from the race and surf event.

You can use different boards for the race and surf event.

Rumour has it that Ron House will be flying over especially for this event.

Maybe he'll be bringing one of his 'stand-a-marans' over?

The race is from Cabarita to Kingscliff and will take approximatley 45 mins for the better paddlers. Both divisions will start from Cabarita in front of the SLSC but the Under 14ft will depart earlier so that hopefully paddlers cross the finish around the same time.

Hi guys & gals.
Had some interesting feedback about having the under 14ft division as one of the racing divisions with the Ron House SUP races at the Malfunction. Quite a few crew have suggested I run an under 12'6 or even under 12ft instead of under 14ft.
I am after some positive feedback that will benefit SUP racing overall not just 1 or 2 competitors.

Woohoo!!! Another race.....pleased to say Woogie has come out of retirement and will be there, as long as the guy who "borrowed" his Penetrator after the Coffs Harbour event returns it in time........

Kia Ora Sean

What about up to 12'6 fixed rudder or production style 12 fter fixed rudder - looking at the Lairds, Jimmy Lewis, etc, then unlimited division (anything over 12'6 with a rudder system)

I think you will get more people in the 12'6 division as it is easier to find and loan boards of this size.

Also if the surf at Cabarita is big it will be easier to get the 12'6 boards out rather than the unlimited boards.

The only issue I see is your time on the 12'6 division might take a bit longer than the 45 mins that you are predicting.

Cabarita to Kingscliff - is that about 8km?

Thanks for the feedback keep it coming.

Obviously heaps of development on the racing SUPs. Ive had a look at the ISA SUP racing regulations and like the 12'6 stock standed fixed fin SUP as one division and then other SUPs developed with rudders for racing as the unlimited division.
I was given the time from a couple of Gold Coast SUP devotees. I believe its just under 8ks as the seagull flies. Maybe a bit further if you paddle further out to sea to chase the ocean runners.

Hey Mac it must of been a while since you've seen me. I went to register for the Bring Back Kirra paddle out on Aust Day and they gave me #210, 211 & 212. LOL

There would be quite a few I reckon would have a crack in the 12'6 and under class and obvioulsy the guys with 16's 17's etc would compete in the unlimited.
Don't know how many 14's we have at the moment though, as far as I know there is only Sue, Shakira and Simon that are on the Vortices.
