After a 10 week layoff due to a shoulder injury I am so stoked to paddlesurf again. Only minor downfall is today the tail of my board smacked me in the lip and I ended up with a couple of stitches. 20 years of windsurfing with not a thread and now this is my second trip to the medical clinic. First time I lost my rail off the top and the nose dug on the front of the wave, ended up with a fin cut in my arm pit through a 3/4 wetty. 10 stitches but not into a major vein lucky. I put my fingers in to see how bad it was and 3 fingers fit in the wound. Today my legrop recal and the tail of my board smacked me in the teeth

2 lessons here.

Use a longer legrope on a SUP 10 foot plus. Today I used a shorter one.

Sand any sharp edges off fins cos those big boards don't stop in a hurry. Glass fins are like a knife.

Regards,
Scotty

yowzers this SUP lark is a lot more dangerous than it looks....been windsurfin for 5 yrs virtually injury free and in 4 or 5 mths of sup

numerous cuts to feet from jumping off in shallow reef - now where booties all the time

fin in the shoulder from a drag back...wouldn't like one in the head

sore fingers from holdin on to paddle or leash protector in waves,....best to just let go.

pulled muscles in the shoulder and i've just done one in my facett joint;'... which is giving me the irrets.......don't paddle for 8 hrs!!!

these things should come with safety instructions haha

yeah agree on the leegy keep it long.......just beaware ofpunters in front of you if ur bailing......

Good to hear that you're back on the board Scotty..Sorry to hear about the fat lip...How's the shoulder?

I agree on the sharp fin thing..and the long leggie..and either hang on..or..get away from it.

I've had my fair share of fin cuts..They don't need to be that sharp..Check these out.. www.surfinghandbook.com/pro-teck-fins/

Thanks DJ,
I actually use those rubber edge fins as my side fins but it was the centre fin that got me...... 8 hours is a long paddle. I don't wear booties even at Gnarloo, just don't touch the bottom ever.
Get well soon.
