Just read something about Noosa and how Keahi's dad got the short end of the stick. Not sure the details but sounds like your politicians are molded in the American way. What a shame after reading the story.

yeah thats a sad and tricky one. They did that down here in Manly with the fast ferries - the previous operator who lost the tender was fortunate it was a private wharf and managed to stay in business whilst retaining approx. 80% of his clients.

I think Governments on the whole tend to forget that it not their show but that they are chosen to represent us the people.

I hope they are ok.

yer i recon it all stems back to that yankie tv series "L.A. LAW"

remember that classic

since then everyone thinks its cool to sue each other

then the next culpert was "desperate house wives"

who knows the true damage that will unfold from that show years down the track

I don't get it.
All that space/water, open ocean and flat water yet there is only 1 stand up school. Where does the jurisdiction start and end
What does that mean in regards to hiring boards in the area as well??
Good luck with all the kooks and accidents in the water up there this summer.

Strange article. I couldn't figure out who actually won the contract, guessing it's one of the councilors mates. Lucky for some, not for others.

Same thing has happened to all the kite schools and all the surfing schools on the Sunny Coast.

All comes down to one person on the council and her wacky idea of what she thinks will work.

Though it sounds like it may be too late, has anyone started a petition?

Really sucks to see one who has put so much passion into something get shafted. And just like his kite business some years earlier, Chris builds everything from stoke and good energy.

Down with Sunny Council[}:)]

So can anyone comment on who actually won the tender? I have read 3 or 4 stories and none mention the company who won or why. No doubt Woogie and Chris are the most credentialled but who is the other party? Perhaps it would help people to lobby council if it was clear???

It's a sad day when the local councils start to think they also own the water. Good luck to the chris and woogie, i hope sense and justice will come thru in the end.

The same thing happen in kitesurfing instructors courses etc.. You had to go and get accreadited by people running a course that couldn't even kite!! It was so far out of touch and made no sense.

Just ends up becoming a nice profit for councils whilist destroying peoples/ familes livleyhoods.

Surely the actions of the council are anti competitive. I would inform the ACCC...a long shot but worth a go.

Any idea on what areas the council tender covers. Would they be able to move to say Tewantin? The news article only mentions the one park.

Can anyone link to the tender documents? It will publish the selection criteria.

To a certain extent this is what you get when you insist on completely fair and open government. You waste huge amounts of time writing tenders that are fair and impartial and unambiguous and cannot be challenged. Lots of spreadsheets and weighting factors and evaluation panels and review processes. If the tenderer meets all the criteria and gets the best score then you are obliged to award the contract.

I'm guessing there is no criterion that says you must be a "...legend and seriously credible waterman and popular in the local industry".

The awarded tenders are listed here:

http://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/sitePage.cfm?code=awarded-tenders

Looks like the tenders were not successfully concluded and council negotiated with the unsuccessful tenderers.

"SUP business owner 'grateful'" article in Noosa News...

Quote "Whilst it was not our decision to have one only SUP school in Noosa, we are relieved and grateful to be selected as Noosa's only school," Phillips said.

"We are very empathetic towards the businesses that missed out. However we believe that our 20-year plus history of surf instruction in Noosa provided us with a strong platform in the areas of teaching methodology, workplace health and safety, contribution to the local economy and putting back into the local community.

In every contest there's a winner and a loser - theres always a reason why the loser should have won and vica versa - but in the end you got suck it up and get on with life - as Malcolm said - life wasn't meant to be easy.
