HI Teatrea, glad you like it, I'd personally like to see this take off around Australia and perhaps have a National Championship. The great thing about SUP it is so diverse.
It was great fun to compete in as well. We obviously modelled it on the Silver Blade Regatta in the US (we didn't have time for the 2000m race this year). It was both exciting to do and watch, next year we will incorporate the 2000m as well, which gives you a bit more racing for the day.
We had an additional race - the Battle of the Paddler (new concept) where all the top qualifers were weighted -
>80kg were on 14' boards
<80kg were on 12'6 boards
The boards were identical Starboard Ace Pros and we raced 500m. This was great fun, really switched things around in terms of who was winning (in terms of weight divisions) and decided who was the best paddler.
Good fun!
Yeah its a great concept I like the weight classes too , despite all the skinny minnies on here saying weight makes no difference its all about power to weight ratio blah , blah blah. Fat blokes like me think it does

And short sprint racing will advantage the bigger stronger guys over the wippets
