Ok video guys speak up sorry if this has been covered a million times before if so can someone direct me to the topic.
Ion pro 2 is a $100 cheaper than gopro silver & $150 cheaper than the black.

What I wanna know is the ION worth it? Who rates it? Is it better than a gopro?
I see many positives: no need for waterproof housing, shape is surely more forgiving from taking hits of water over the nose of the board compared to square gopro. Comes with a bunch of accessories in the kit no extra charge.

I have no idea on filming quality or the differences between it an a gopro some experienced users advice would be great.

Hi Andy

No

I have owned 3 (the original a surprise gift and since replaced on warranty twice) and would not get one for watersports again. Although a waterproof connection attaches to back and I was meticulous in checking and taping it some water can breach. Then the camera stops. This has happened snorkelling and SUSing. It appears immersion may be the issue. The surfboard mount attachment is very bulky not flat like GoPro when not in use. In the snow the cam also stopped after a few minutes and eventually I found in the fine print very cold no good for battery. Thus i would keep it inside my jacket pocket warming against my chest until off the lift and then click on.

On the plus the non board mounts are good. The picture is excellent and fogging not an issue.

Once you get a cam it is addictive for months. My wife thought I was becoming narcissistic so I haven't SUS filmed for a while but here is some ION Winter footage

Thanks for that info.
I wonder if this is a common issue with the back plate leaking?
I guess ion or a gopro in a housing being in water you run the risk of a leak.

I'll basically just be using it to record my DW runs attached to the board and maybe a helmet hopefully majority of the time not being submerged.
I like that there is less editing with picture colours etc than the gopro as I'm a rookie in that department also.

Anyone else got input ?

Have got both go pro and the ion find the Ion so much easier to use also think it puts out clearer footage but if you listen to the go pro marketing bus that's not the case . For me Ion just the go but I will check out that back plate to make sure it seals well . If you watch the king of the cut vid done by Matty he use some footage from both my cameras Go pro. On the board and the Ion on the head cam .
