If there is one i'm more than keen

It would have to be in decent waves so not in the metro area

sounds good but but WA's surf zones have knobs on it unless it's a mobile , like the RIP CURL comp then it could work

The Geraldton Longboard club has a competition in the long weekend in June and runs an open sup along with 9', 8' and old mal. It is a great event and we have run the sup section for 2 years with some good surfers. If you want details let me know. I am a club member and maybe treasurer for life. This is a wave contest obviously. I like waves with a 8'5" and 9' sup, have a downwinders board, a surf ski, a few surfboards and also windsurf.

maybe one of the shops could organise a wave comp?,you think it would be a low budget way to promote a retail outlet and maybe even move a bit more stock and if it grew in the future it could turn em into legends or even Seabreeze, you guys must be loaded by now, i can just see it the "Seabreeze Marg river SUP Classic" And i agree with tortise it would best if comp was mobile.

There is a series of events run by the WA Long Boarders club, Yallingup, Lancelin and Denmark these events help choose the state team for the nationals, Geraldton Long boarders club also has an event (this is always an awesome event held at Corronations). The contest dates and details are on the Surfing WA web site. I was super impressed with the event organisation, very relaxed format and great group of guys and gals, would be good to see a bigger fleet next year. We had awesome conditions for Yallingup and Denmark, Lano was a bit flat but still fun, and Gero had some great conditions early on, and produces some fun waves. I think there is also an event coming up conected with the Yal Mal, not sure but if you get hold of Galvo at Stand Up Surf Shop he can enlighten you.

Unfortunately it isn't as easy as just rocking up to a beach and throwing on a contest. You have to consider permits, insurance, heat rashies etc and without charging a heafty entrance fee, which no one wants to pay, it is a pretty big initial outlay.

Agree with the mobile event, but with that comes multiple council's and their different requirements.

Stay tuned though as the ball is in motion to get a club up and running.
