I have been riding the starboard element 9'8" with the factory set up, I think it's a drake 9.5 central fin with some soft flexy starboard side fins.

I've decided to up grade and gone with the following FCS fins

Longboard cutaway fin
www.surffcs.com/en/products/fins/longboard/cutaway.aspx

Chilli-9 side fins
http://www.surffcs.com/en/products/fins/thrusters/CHILLI-9.aspx

Does the forum think this is a good choice for a 183cm, 95kg beginner/intermediate?

Will be surfing 2-4 foot reef breaks mostly

I like that style of cutaway for the center fin I have used them in up to 12fters and they really free the board up but you will loose some stability. I have never used the chilli, I have tried FG or PC 5 -7 and the inside foils again free the board up with a big guy on the deck. You can also use MRTX sides if you want more stability and extra drive with that style center fin.

My 2 cents

Hi Lobes
I been riding mine with a 61/2' fluid foil center fin & smaller side fins I think gsx . I just play around with them makes the board pretty loose , if I go out in any bigger stuff I go back to the star board centre.

You could try a smaller centre fin, which will loosen it up some more.
I use a Futures 4.5" performance centre with M7 on the sides on my Element. I'm around 86kg so you may want to try the 6" version for the centre or perhaps the Shapers S9 centre (5 1/4"). Either of these combo's should work well for the weight & in those waves.

Just a thought... Smaller center fins will loosen it up more for sure.. and are pretty cool.. but at what cost for stability?.. These boards are already pretty loose and I'm guessing that Christian would be looking for as much stability that he can get.. (because he's a big'ish guy).. I may be wrong but keep that in mind when thinking about smaller fins.

I find stability is not a proplem the element 30" wide 6'' fin a walk in the park , I take it out when I want an easy surf.
