This morning i got loads of really great waves. It was clean at about 2-4ft. On my last wave i did the best round house cuttie complete with a rebound off the foam i have ever done on a SUP.

Then it was the set up for the inside tube run. I had to dodge bloody surfer who though it was better to paddle out over the shoulder causing me to have the delay my bottom turn majorly. So i was just able to tuck in under the pitching lip and i got a cracking deep barrel just like i had scored on a few during the session. All of a sudden huey shut the door on my exit annd it slammed shut like a door blowing in the wind. Next was a trip over the shallow reef while the wave beat my about the head. I felt my leggie snap. I swam in and found out the my beloved Naish 9'6" quad was creased through the middle.

Not happy but the surf today was a fitting end to the relationship. hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm the up side is what do i get to replace it, i'm thinking a 8 or 9footer :D

Any suggestions on good surfing sups around the 9foot mark. I like quads. i can surf ok and weigh 82-85kgs. I mainly surf reef breaks in the SW of WA.

I'm liking the idea of a custom. Is any one shaping them in WA?

If you like doing round house cut backs jump on a PSH 8-9 Ripper very fast board that loves to be thrown around and a beautiful outline shape that really holds well on steep walls. Super tough construction you won't be creasing this one.

sorry to hear about ur board.

just had a demo on a jl kwad 8'7. Such a good board, ticks all the box's apart from fat lumpy waves.

I think you'll find the construction will hold up better, for poundings.

i'm 95kg , average ability and was dialed in after a couple of minutes sorting my balance. I'd get a 9'1 but i could get away with an 8'7, cos i'm a lazy

Thnaks guys you have given me plenty of options to consider.
windy, what is the shape like. I have surf rounded pins on my short boards for years and i really want to get a similar outline on my next SUP. What does a new JL cost?

Get a custom from Dean Snow if he makes them for anyone else. That guy is 56 and absolutely shreds!!! So does his young son. He surfs a 30' by 7'6". Absolutely amazing to watch. The only problem for you is that he lives in Vic.

Don't know if these are popular, this week - but they were about 3 months ago when I bought mine.

I really love my corbean fusion.

If you can just try a few boards out and demo them for a while, then pick the board that will work best for you.

The guy asks for an idea of a custom shaper and gets slammed with 200 different production board options.

"Hi, can I have a pie? Sure what kind of sausage roll would you like?"

Too funny.

Dan from DTM is another option, although he is based in Sydney. Our waves when they're on are not too dissimilar to SW WA and mine handle real well in those conditions. I have surfed that area heaps so am familiar with a lot of the waves such as Bears, Nth & Sth Point and M River.

You would want something that you know works in similar types of waves to what you ride.

You might want to read it a bit better!!! he asks for "Any suggestions on good surfing sups around the 9foot mark. I like quads. i can surf ok and weigh 82-85kgs."

and then ask's "I'm liking the idea of a custom. Is any one shaping them in WA?"

So for me it reads ANY suggestions!!!! i dont think it needs to be turned in to a production v's custom do you? There have been customs guys suggested as well so i'm not seeing this as one sided!! or that's how i see it.

One more question guys. I have sourced a near new PSH Wide Ripper 8'9". From what i have read these babies are held in high regard as really good surfing sups. At 82-85kgs will the board suit surfing the waves of the SW of WA?

My only concern is its stability while waiting out the back.
Are they tippy?

What the build quality like?

Coming from a Naish Hokua 9'6" i'm guessing it will be pretty similar in stability.

I have pretty much decided to grab it though so i would love to hear any reasons why the board would be a good choice.

Thanks in advance.

The 8-9 Wide Ripper is almost 30" wide and 120 litres , so no it's not a tippy board plenty of guys in the 90+ club ride these boards.

Big difference in stability between the 8-9 Ripper & 8-9 WIDE Ripper.

The 8-9 Ripper is only 28-1/4 x 112 litres with a really pulled in nose and tail.

Right atm with such crap windsurfing conditions I'm actually enjoying SUP more, I would've thought that impossible a while back. Today with 18 to 23 kt easterlies forecast went wsurfing, planed about 10 mins out of 2 hrs Either proper winds or F'OFF and give us calm conditions wif a bito swell
