For some it's gunna matter if we don't get heaps turning up at Gunnamatta beach this Sunday.

Anyone else interested in going?

Maybe SUP at Pines/Crunchies early and go to it after?

I could well be wrong, but we've already lost that battle - the crap from Chelsea water treatment plant has been pumping the waste out to Gunnamatta for almost two decades. The last I heard (this morning) the govt were planning to recycle the waste from chelsea into A grade recycled water - whatever that means - and use it as a much needed water resource.

Despite the emotive poster, what's gunna matta on Sunday - for me, a midlife crisis soul surfer - is a good session in a wind protected place.

The swell predictions are still at 4m - with a strong westerly.

Yeah I think they are pushing a lost cause...but no-one would have thought Kirra would be restored 5 to 10 years ago but now it looks like it's going to happen. But Kirra is a different kettle of fish. Pumping sand ruined it, while gunna they are pumping poo!

With Kirra, what's going on with the 1km walk to the water? I've never understood why they needed to pump all that sand into Coolangatta and Kirra. I would have preferred watching the buildings built too close to the beach on the GC become an artificial reef - it may still happen, and in my lifetime.

They built rock walls at the tweed river to stop sand build up in the river mouth but this stopped the natural sand flow northwards up the southern coast of QLD (the goldcoast). So they pump the sand to recreate the natural sand flow up the coast. But in my opinion the rock walls have effected the water flow from tweed heads to kirra close to shore so the sand being pumped isn't being moved up the coast fast enough, hence the build up and creation of the super bank and the beach at Kirra big enough for 2 football ovals.

I think they rushed the plans for the rock wall without thinking through and then put in place actions to correct poor estimations/judgements which has just created more problems

.....ACTUALLY just read this link. It's a bit bias towards the polys but you can read the truth into it.

STOP pumping sand NOW,extend the rock walls and let the ocean take care of the rest!
BTW,I surfed Kirra back in the 80/early 90's,fantastic,I drive past there a few times a week and only lately have a lookie, its getting better each week /month!
But god someone please fix it!
The beach is like a 10 minute hike before for see water

I've been a regular visitor to the Tweed since Greenmount was built. It must have been 10 years ago they started pumping the sand - I couldn't understand the rationale then, and I still don't get it.

I'ts my view that Joe destroyed Queensland and left you guys with a legacy that you've never quite known what to do with since.

Read the link...they turned a crappy river mouth into one that could be used and less dangerous for boats entering and leaving by using rock walls. This caused problems with sand south of the river so they decided to pump it north which created big beaches like Kirra. Now they are trying to fix it. Whether they should have built the rock walls in the first place is questionable. But Oli, the rationale is pretty straight forward, just the outcome not so good.
