He should be proud of his new 2012, 12'6" BOP style race board by Surftech.

It's very nice.. It will be interesting to see how it goes up against the others.

Apparently it's a high tech carbon constuction.. It's not super light but is super strong.. (so they say).. I would say it's about the same weight as the carbon Naish 12'6".

It's 30" wide and costs about $2,200 which is about the same price as the new Naish 12'6 carbon Jav.

I think they are available now.. I paddled SHQ's demo board.

I found it very stable and it felt quick.. I have some detailed pics that I will post soon..

Top effort with the vid DJ and the board looks great, probably a bit wider than I had in mind for a 12'6 BOP board but that would obviously make it nice and stable.

I checked out the new JM 14 yesterday.. I couldn't paddle it because it's a shop board and not a demo. but I took heaps of pics.. It looked nice.

DJ

I spotted the board in the rack as soon as I walked in because it was sticking out more than the others.. The nose looked very similar to the 12'6".

But the tail looked very different.. It's much narrower making it also look thicker (but it's not).

I put the board on the stand and took these pics.

juat what the hell is that metal pin through the hand hole for?.. I'm starting to think it might be a strength thing to link both sides of the hole together??

Could it be somewhere you could attach a short coil leggy to?

I first though that but now I'm not sure.. It would be right where you're standing and right in the way.. I'm sure you'd be stepping on it all the time.. Especially a coiled leash..

JM knows what that rod through the hand-hole is for.. Here's what he says..

DJ

"DJ the rod in the handle is so u can lock the board to your roof or somewhere at your house if you can not store it inside... Its a safety feature to stop boards getting stolen"

The weight on the 12'6' is just on 12 kilos with non dig scales but i think it maybe a bit less than that if use dig scales to get actuate.

I have had my 14 JM for a few weeks know and I'm lov'n it so stable and I can finally stay with my mate on his 14 DC, well most of the time anyway he tends to have a bigger motor then me when the pressure is on, but no more huge gaps in our finish times.I'm a happy chappy.

I picked JM 12'6 in a shop the other day and found it to be quiet nose heavy and with the security pin in the handle(why fix it if its not broken) IMO it would be awkward to if you had to carry it any distance, which is a sales consideration for me

I missed my paddle with old Vee8 this morning. Was just moping around the house and I read this post. Got inspired by Susan T singing my fave song and the glide of the JM, so I have the trusty DC on the roof and I'm off.
