Yes... "OUR" is a term of endearment.
some non-sailing folk would not really understand
the greatness of her achievement.
Not taking anything away from Mitcho.....

yes i realise the meaning of "our" ....like there is some tie....what that he sails a boat???? so if he sups that makes Jamie "his" also...to me people are people you can be a proud father or friend or supporter but at the end of the day its the individual's achievement. It just feels(to me) a bit wanky when people jump on board and start making ties with achievements.

dont take me as a non supporter, I think she did great, all be it a bit over hyped with current technologies and a path well beaten....

What a ridculous thread.

Support someone just because they're a paddleboarder; how parochial. Have a look at the other nominees and what they have achieved.

You can cast a vote once per day......

The whole thing is a joke.

I guess more to the point, some of the people who use this forum, live and paddle in the same community as Jamie Mitchell. Some of us may not know him on a personal level, but have had the awsome opportunity to train with him, race with him, have him attend and volunteer his time too our local races. So if we can give back by doing something as simple as casting a vote to show our support than whats the harm?
I dont know any of the other contenders, nor do i really care, its people like Jamie Mitchell that keep me motivated, and make me want to be better a better paddler, and a better waterperson....so yep, he gets my vote.
So if you dont like "paddleboarders" i suggest you find a new forum, because this is the 'stand up PADDLEBOARDERS forum, the thread clearly stated what this topic was all about. Of course it is parochial, the focus is on Paddle boarding!

Im sure that you havent been under a rock, and know that he has a "few" more accievements under his belt....

there has been talk of him doing a paddle from here to Tassie....would that be more "adventerious" for you.

while I agree it may appear hes out of place in that line up, he has climbed "the oceans everest" many times now...

you can vote for any of them more than once.....I think your problem is not with JM nore this thread, rather the orgainers of the competition...maybe go whinge to them...

have a nice day

OMG !!! "a bit over hyped with current technologies and a path well beaten...."
the amount of ppl who have solo circ. would not fill a Melbourne tram. More ppl
have stood on the face of the moon. and its a "path well beaten".
I dont think this has much to do with "tech." or equipment. this has to do with
courage and lonleiness and seemingly endless fatigue and stress. I dont think
many ppl could spend a week letalone 9 months in your bathroom...which is what
it must seem like, then throw in bad weather cold, heat and no sleep.
Whew!!!! my 2bobs worth.

OMG, OMG, OMG......I thought that was reserved for 16 girl txt's....

I do understand where you are coming from, BUT she didnt go 9 months without sleep, 9 months of bad weather and wasnt truely alone etc etc...she experienced some of this sure, along with a bit of bad driving...hahaha.

dont think Im putting JM on a pedistool above the rest nore JS below them...They have all done stuff above their respective field...Not one of them did it alone...

Geez...seems I touched a couple of raw nerves.

Scubasim....I dont know any of the other contenders, nor do i really care.

Perhaps you should care, it is afterall the National Geographic Adventurer of The Year. This might be a SUP forum but that doesn't mean I have to support everything said here. By your way of thinking if JM was nominated for PM of this country we would all have to support him. I don't think so, I like to research and support the best candidate no matter their affilliation to whatever.

So if you dont like "paddleboarders" i suggest you find a new forum, because this is the 'stand up PADDLEBOARDERS forum, the thread clearly stated what this topic was all about. Of course it is parochial, the focus is on Paddle boarding!

I SUP myself but fortunately I have a more broadminded approach. I like to look at the bigger picture and looked at the other nominees to learn what they had achieved before I made up my mind. At least I'm not an ostrich with its head stuck in the sand and its bum stuck up in the air.

Husq2100...Your right, I don't have a problem with JM in fact I admire his talent and achievements. But then again perhaps I have a different way of judging other peoples achievements. I didn't post here however to knock other nominees achievements. All's good, people are entitled to their opinions and shouldn't be afraid to voice them...that's what a forum is all about

Have a nice day yourself sir

whens the last time you completed an epic challeging adventure , taken on a few forty foot waves have you.If you have id like to read about it.Her achievment was amazing for some one so young.People jump on board because people like them inspire other people and can also inspire whole generations of kids to chase their dreams ect ect.

you must be taking the piss , well i hope you are.

just completed my last epic adventure about 5 mins ago....posted my first forsale item on Ebay.... holy crap that was worse than masterbating with a cheese grater!

as far as jumping on board, there is support and then there is support....eyesrolling... If you want to see me as knocking go right ahead...but also read the whole thread through again and look at Petermc and planesailing's posts....considering we are in a SUP forum and JM was one of the pioneries in this country alot of us are familiar to his efforts....

like I said they have all achieved highly in their feilds. It just becomes a pissing contest to compare them...ie Jessicas effort is fantastic...the distance makes it a big deal.......I would like to know the total km's JM has paddled on his feet/knees and stomach, total of waves over 20 foot he has been on with just some foam and fibre glass.....the injuries he has suffered and struggle through to keep going etc etc.....do you see what im getting at????

and alot of the others would have as well....

the term "our" just rubs me up the wrong way, like when you go to a shop and the /girl or lady calls you darl or hun....or when ford/commodore drivers think there car is better than the other by association with motor racing....

I have respect for all those people and their achievements....some got WAY more publicity than others....which isnt reflective of their achievement...more just popular Australia....
