Anyone have any experience with excess baggage fees with Jetstar and checking in a 12'6 race board?

I'll be calling them soon but thought I'd check in here.

I'll probably get smashed for some serious coin for sure....

Jetstar = No chance sorry.

Virgin your next best bet but they are even turning them away sometimes.

Sorry no help.

Mate Jetstar use the Airbus planes. they have small roughly 6-8foot cargo containers that all cargo goes into and then loaded on the plane. Nothing is loose loaded into these.
Qantas/Virgin mostly still use the Boeing 737's all cargo is hand loaded directly into the cargo bay. This is why they can easily fit long objects. Though they are getting harder and harder to get accepted purely because they take up so much room and are easily damaged by cargo boys...

Most people don't know this: Every single commercial passenger plane in Australia on every flight wants to take as little as possible of customers bags/gear etc. This is because all the freight companies like Toll , TNT , Australia Air Express, Aus Post etc are using these planes to move freight around the country quickly. It is cheaper for these freight companies to pay the airlines for space than run their own planes across the country.. They all still have their own planes but no where near enough to move the volume of freight they have to move.

The flights cost is covered by the passengers fairs etc. the freight is the money maker for the airlines.
I grew up in the industry with my father and worked in it until a few years ago..

I thought you were a shortboarder

G'day, A shortboarder here asking about Longboarding. Could you gents pass on some feedback and thoughts about South Coast Boards and the shaper Ian Chisolm? A mate has asked me about him but I don't have anything to pass on. All I know is that South Coast Boards has a one page website and FB page, from Torquay and may or may not be a bit of a local legend. www.southcoastsurfboards.com/ www.facebook.com/pages/South-Coast-Surfboards/116193628391844?sk=info&tab=page_info Any info and feedback would be great gents.

Guess you must have another mate.......

So, I called Jetstar Gold Coast Airport, AKA the Philippines call center it seems, and yeah I can't take an item on the plane that big. The limit I was given was 2.7m.

Bugger....

Angie Pangi, thanks for that. It was confirmed. Might give Virgin a crack then.

Macaha, haha, just checked her profile pic. She must be one of those podium finishers for sure. Maybe 1st pozie too perhaps.

AndyR, yeah thanks for that. I recall that story or there abouts from an old mate from school who worked for Qantas and as an engineer of some sorts. I also recall he used to head off to Bali for like $25 one way. Standby flights I think but still. Lucky bugger.

Seabreeze Detetective Nozza, yeah primarily a biscuit lover. I'm feeling a bit short in the fitness department but don't want to join a gym, LOL.
Yeah, my mate ended up ordering an Ian Chisolm board too. Cheers for your input if you were one of them helping us out from that part of the world.
