Today I finally assembled my Kenalu paddle, after working out my preferred length before cutting by using my Bic adjustable paddle a few more times.

I just weighed them

BIC - 1.058kg

Kenalu - 450g

Big difference

Huge difference, I'm guessing you will never want to use that BIC again.

Pretty sure that fella was an original SUP paddler from the 50-60's and really respected I think he may have recently passed away.
John Zapatocky?

Yup the first time I got my 350g paddle it was unbelievable.

However, my love for big blades doesnt mix well with lightness... It was too easy to break the shaft on take offs. I use now 400g (pre-preg) paddles which seem a better compromise weight / strength.
A point in favor of smaller blades actually: you can make them lighter!

Something to watch from Hawaii. It goes for a few minutes but worth the watch.
Legend! John has been Sup'n for years.
With the right equipment i hope i am Sup'n untill I am 91!!!
Big blades = more resistance. Less flexable shaft = resistance and more "pull for your stroke" .
Depends what you want to to , surf or cruise, how fast you want to do it, and how much $$$$ you want to spend. imho.... soo many choices!
Cheers PB
