Just finished my new Paddle its a first attempt so its a bit rough and I know I can do better next time but i am pretty happy!!. It weights 940g and is balsa wood core with glass wrap. Thanks to board bumps for the Idea and advise. I made the shaft oval and bigger than my carbon shaft. It feels very comfy. The front is cupped not flat and the back shaped to match. Of to try it this afternoon. Rod

Hi Rod, hope the board is really small because the paddle looks a bit big for the little
guy holding it. I hope with his weight he will not break a leg rope next time he goes out.

Looks good!

Is the black strip carbon fibre cloth? And where do you source the balsa 'blanks' from?

Hi Yes the black strip is carbon fibre added down the front and back of the shaft, I continued it down on to the blade to add strength to the joint. The blade is 2 x 6.5 mm balsa sheets laminated togeather with the grain running opposite directions.I then placed a 2 mm x 25mm strip on the front of the blade and feathered it back to create the cupped edge. The shaft is the leading edge spars(D shaped section) from a model aeroplane wing placed back to back and then wrapped in glass. Cost of the balsa was $45. with some left over.
