He use the new Naish 17-18' race board and won it easy.. He's in a class of his own and it's great that Naish have him on board.

What would have been more impressive if Dave had backed it up by doing the OC1 race as well.

At the moment I have the 11'4".. the 11'6" AST and the 12' Glide.

I plan to sell my 12' Glide (or the AST) and get the new 14' Glide.

I'd love the new 17'er but I think I'd also need a new car to carry it.. .. It may be too big a board for my little zook.

We'll see.. Maybe I'll sell the 14' Glide one day and get the 17' Glide depending on how much they cost.

Does anyone have any idea how much these new Naish boards will cost?

seems like the Naish boards cleaned up during that race. The Glide 14'0'' (I think they just received the first production boards) also won its classes. With Jerry Bess, Kai Lenny and Michi Schweiger being right in there. Pretty amazing that somebody on a 14 footer (Jerry Bess) can rank within the top 10 overall in between all the unlimited boards. The bigger surprise was that the boards worked so well in absolutely no wind conditions which are so unusual for the Maliko Maui run. Lets hope we get a windy Naish race on the 12th of August. Supposedly the Naish Glide unlimited is gonna have a rudder system that can be easily adjusted for regular and goofy foots

Correction DJ -

Don't know what site you were looking at for 2009 results on the Naish Paddleboard race but your information is way off. Dave Kalama did NOT win the 4th Annual Naish Race. Sadly, for him his Naish Equipment failed him (rudder fell apart) and he pulled out of the race.

The race was won by Scott Trudon on an SIC 18' SUP. Here are the top finishers -

1. Scottt Trudon
2. Kai Bartlett
3. Aaron Napoleon
4. Mark Raaphorst
5. Alan Cadiz

For the complete 2009 results go to mauipaddleboard.com

Dave is sponsored by Naish, but not Kai far as I know. Kai is brand new to SUP though he is a phenomenal outrigger paddler (and now we see he has translated that to SUP).
Kai was on an SIC F-16 and so was Mark Raaphorst. The winner, Scott Trudon was on the SIC F-18 (actually - looks like most of the top guys, were on SIC)

Hi Mauwatergirl.. You must be thinking of the recent Naish event when Dave failed to finish because his rudder fell of or something like that..

My results were from the last event when Dave won..

Right you are DJ - I think I was confused by the results - You must have been referring to the Olukai Race back in May. Dave did win. FYI - in that race it was Aaron Napoleon who came in third, Alan was 5th.
The conditions for the Naish race were excellent.
It was too bad that Dave's Naish equipment failed in a Naish race!
