I read with interest the post on a new shark deterrent device.... Installed in the board surfsafe.net.au.... See surf forum katana post Anyone put this in a SUP.
I have been paddling over reefs in the northern beaches of Perth as dawn (i know high risk time and location). In the first 6 months I encountered 3 curious sharks with the last one being a large white pointer that scared the crap out of me. Since then I have always had a sharkshield on my Fanatic. It sinks the back a little bit so you need to stand a little more forward than usual but I have not seen a shark since. There is no way I would go into Perth waters without one. The only thing that scares me more than sharks is clowns!!!
More info on the circumstances of your shark encounters on a SUP please, especially the GW one. How far out from shore were you? Were you wave riding or downwinding etc. Did you see them on the surface or God forbid under your board.
