Sooo thanks to Mr. Keno spot 5 lol I am in the market for a new paddle. Yippeee!!!!
So I was wondering being 182 cm and 110kg and going down, what paddle should I go for?
I have a adjustable SUPAtx which is for the wife mainly, which I think I will use as I start surfing later on.
I would probably buy my paddle for DWing in mind.

As fare as Kialoa go..

I'd recommend the Hulu.. oval shaft version..

I mostly use the Hulu Small.. [both downwinding and surfing] .. But it's a pretty small blade.. At your weight I think the regular Hulu will work best..

btw.. It's nice to know that Tom Carroll also chooses the Kialoa Hulu Sm..

Not because they're given to him or because of a sponsorship deal.. but because after trying them all he likes them the most..

I'm sure plenty of others here can give advise re KeNalu..

Both great paddle.. and both have a VERY different feel..

do you have a adjustable shaft DJ? or just 2 paddles ?

is the Hulu oval shaft a softer or stiffer I have had a shoulder injury in the past, but it's strengthening, I think reading some of the posts I should go a softer shaft, springier, or what ever you call it lol

I did notice he had a kialoa (Tom Carroll)

What about a Quickblade? I keep reading some great things about those paddles. I own a KeNalu Malokai and also have the Maliko blade. I really enjoy the KeNalu paddles and have found them to be great for flatwater and surfing. I tend to use the Malokai for both, but then I am not an expert paddler and just use the one paddle for everything. I am curious to try both the Quckblade and Kialoha paddles as I have not heard a bad thing about either of them, nor KeNalu for that matter. I think, as everything in SUP goes, try to demo all three (or both) if you can to see which feels right for you.

Ke Nalu has a great system

Assembled with hot glue (not epoxy) Mix & match blades, shafts, handles.

Break a blade?... Heat up with a heat gun and replace the blade. Simple.

Want adjustment?
Buy your paddle with the "Extended Ergo T" handle... it has a 10" base that can be adjusted up and down with a heat gun.
Not instant adjusting, but a great way to find your perfect length or adjust before a flat-water session etc.

If you break any component, they have a lower "forever paddle" price for replacement parts.

The Wiki (smallest) is the most popular surf blade.

DJ put me on to the Kialoa Hulu small and I love the way it paddles.

Ke Nalu paddles also have an excellent reputation so either paddle would be a good choice.

Demo, demo,demo!
Then you don't have to assume that other people's somewhat biased preferences will apply to you.
The only way to find what best suits YOU is to give the paddles you are interested in a try......after doing that your decision will be easy.....you'll definitely want the Ke Nalu Konihi

Hey Tony,

If your at the Swap Meet tonight at Seacliff, you are welcome to try both my Quickblades for comparison. I have a 100 Slim Jim and a 90 Kanaha Elite Race. Both great paddles and worth trying. As always try as many as you can.

Bleachy.

Hey Tony, You should probably get the paddle uncut that way you can cut it yourself when it arrives. With the tapered shaft on the QB's the handle is fixed so you actually make the cut down the shaft at the blade end. Nice and simple to keep changing the length especially if you use Hot Glue that way you can just reheat cut and re-attach. very easy. I am happy to help. Also I think the only new tricky thing with the quick blades is they cut the shaft on a 45 degree angle so you don't have to use glue if your just playing around with length.
