Hey Guys,

Kristi has been invited to go to the Performance Paddling Pro Junior and SUP Fiesta in Huntington Beach California in May. The comp site is at Bolsa Chica, Huntington Beach, Between Life Guard Towers 16 &17

We are looking for ideas for reasonably priced accommodation close to this area.

The only Airline I can get to take her board an guarantee it will be there on time is Qantas as we have to fly out on the 3rd and the comp is on the 5th.

All the other alrlines we have tried have luggage embargoes which I am told means it may get off loaded at some point.

Is it best to fly into John Wayne or LAX?

How hard is it to get a cab / town car to shift a 7'6 board or is it just easier to hire a car.

Any ideas on hire car companies out of LAX?

Any other ideas suggestion pointer would be greatfully accepted.

Hi Phil, firstly well done to Kristi should be a hoot.

We used to compete at Huntington every year for a few years back in the late 80s but always used to stay with crew. Although the last time we went did stay in a cheap hotel pretty much across the road but can't remember its name (20 odd years ago now).

LAX is a fair old drive to Huntington and John Wayne would be closer but the freeways there are awesome as long as you don't go peak hour.

Def rent a car as they are pretty cheap, get a van or SUV but make sure you get a SAT NAV as it will help getting around. We were in LA over the last Xmas hols and did a 3000km road trip with the family, I used Alamo as they where a bit cheaper but are still a big company. Google is your friend I booked everything online. Have fun!

Will do DJ,

Looks like a great event 7 Girls from US, Hawaii and 1 from Aus plus 16 Boys from US Hawaii, Brasil and I think, France will compete in the Pro Junior. Heaps of other kids in the age divisions from 10 up to 17.

Looks like a hoot!

I'd be implementing a back up plan for her board if something goes wrong. Maybe contact surftech as Laguna has ties with them.

I'm just focusing on the basics at the moment so thanks for the thoughts guys lots of things you can miss yourself that are obvious to others.

Great Idea Mick I'll get on it.

Husk we are taking 2 boards with half a cubic meter of bubble wrap so hopefully all will be good but I took your advice and spoke to Tully as a back up and I think we have that covered now thanks for the tip.

Thanks again

Phill

On ya Kristi. Good luck.

Definitely hire a car/van, they are relatively cheap, so is petrol. The drive down to HB is easy (avoid peak hour) and you'll get to experience LA a bit.
