Does anybody do land paddling? Was reading up on it and thinking of getting the 59" Kahuna Bombora board and the Kahuna bamboo big stick. I've ridden skateboards as a kid but that was ages ago. I do not want to get into skateboarding again for skateboarding sake, but just want some fun that's close to SUPs when I can't get out on the water. However, I do not want to learn any bad forms so would appreciate feedback from SUP guys that also do land paddling and whether it is true that it is a good alternative to SUPs when you can't get to the water.

I have and it's good fun in the right conditions.. but the paddling motion on land is very different to the motion on the water.

I'd say definitely try before you buy.. You are welcome to try my if you're in Melbourne.

I used to grab both hands on an elliptical trainer, and it provided a surprisingly good training for SUP paddling.

Imagine grabbing one of the "arms" of the machine below with both hands in a SUP paddling position. The benefit is also that you can monitor your cardiac rhythm and thus get used to recognize when you are reaching the cardiac danger zone on the water.

You can also see a lot of dedicated SUP rowing machines, adapted from kayak/canoe machines. Google for "SUP trainer". Here is one, but there are many others:

But, I have not tried it, but Jim Terrel pool system seems the best solution. Either put a stool in a kids inflatable pool, or stand on a bench with 2 rectangular basins on the side (horse water trays) filled with water, and paddle in them.

Or just stand on the side of a pool:

Endless rope machine is pretty good:

At most gyms they are mounted up high and you can back away until you are almost at the end and lean back to engage the same muscles. Keeping your back straight works core also.

WCC, we have a pair of them for 5 yrs and they have travelled well . Used regularly for land locked fitness. Surf stance or square stance, its a work out.
As DavidJohn said try before if you can

Thanks guys. Will give it a go. It won't be for fitness training as I spend too much time in the gym already, but just to have some fun if I can't get to the water.
Been spending the last two weeks on the water every day and my SUP skills are improving a lot. From newbie to riding waves and I started doing some cutbacks two days ago - takes quite a bit more effort to quickly turn a longboard than a surfboard but am getting better with pivoting around the paddle. SUP'ing is highly addictive for sure. I did surf when I was younger so it came quite naturally - but SUP'ing is so much more fun!

That's very generous of you but I am just over 10,000 km West of you.
