With no swell on the Gold Coast we packed the car and headed south to Lennox & Flatrock at 4.30am this morning. We were an unwelcome site to the locals site with 4 sups stacked one on top of each other , we didn't go out at Lennox first up as there were a few already out and alot more about to go in. Lennox has a reputation of nasty locals , so we went to Flatrock where no one was out and we had a ball in nice 3 to 4 foot waves. We came back to Lennox for some brekky after our surf and the beach breaks were pumping . I got out my new 400mm lens and sent the boys out.I meet a local when I was taking the shots and said the point is the only place you will find the agro.We were well away from that and the boys ripped it up.

Here are some great shots of the day.

The first shot is me on the left then Brett , Rosco & Simo.

Yeah he did these are just a few of 180 photos.Rosco was on his 9-6 Gerry Lopez and Brett was on a 9-8 Starboard. After my first wave the board felt really weird I rolled it over to check the fins and a rear quad fin had dropped out so I surf 2 hours with a back fin missing , it was still ok on the rights but all over the shop on the lefts , I still had a great surf even picking off the occasional bomb.

Great pics.. really great.

I had a classic day once at Flatrock at about 10' (mast and a half) with just me and Bob McTavish out.. and another day about the same size and I remember doing crossovers with Warren Cornish.. Turning off the top and looking down at him bottom turning bellow me is something I'll never forget.

I can't wait to get up to Lennox Head and Flatrock again.. My friend Plil Trigger said he saw Dogman launch off the rocks at Lennox once on a 10' day.

More pics please..

Awesome pics.

Can I request of videos (one and all) that we see some wobbling out through the whitewater? .... Vids are actually very instructional, but tend to ignore this very important part of the whole shebang, IMHO. Seeing how the experienced get through, or get crunched too, would be very helpful for us gumbies.

Rob,

Nice looking conditions-I've had some epic surfs at Lennox over the years-my dad lives up in the hills in Possum Creek.

You blokes look like you could shut the aggro down-although, good to see your respect for the 'established' order out The Point.

I'm after a 5D MkII as well (the 20D is getting a little long in the tooth)- I also shoot with the Canon 400mm and 70-200mm (little off topic).

Look forward to seeing some moving pictures....

Thanks for posting.

nice pics boys

probably a good idea not to hit the point in mass numbers

but you dont know till you have a go

i've suped it about 6 times now

great wave

first time i jumpped off the rocks was at dawn and didn't really notice how big it was till a big set hit while i was just about to jump (ohhh!!! sh@t)

the next couple of times i paddled from the beach

last time i surfed it the reef where the beach starts in front of the boat ramp was epic 6 to 8 foot and heavy barrels it took me 5 attempts and over 40 minutes just to make it out the back had a quick heart attack then paddled up to the point

must have put on a good show for the guys on the beach watching and betting that i wouldn't make it at all

heard a story that a dude paddled out there and went straight out the back of the pack and tried to catch a bomb set and got nailed and cleaned up the pack

yer i don't think they like the whole sup caper out there

Scott no mates Rob they call me

Dogman's right about getting out and getting in can be just as hard if you are surfing the point. The point is well defended by ageing old surfers who still think they are 18 , even if you are on a shortboard don't expect to be welcomed into the line up.The owner of the local surf shop is now on a sup I didn't see him on the point either he was on the beaches with us.

Loco the 5d is a great camera you won't be disappointed.Still working on the video.

the swell has jumpped up a bit more this morning

bit messy and lumpy though but nice early before the breeze kicked in

got smashed by a few 8ft bombs and stretched the new leggie a bit and give the lungs a good workout

i've snapped 2 leggies in the last 2 weeks

didn't want to snap another and end up with my board up the rocks in front of the cliff

lennox would be on today
