I have been out for a paddle on Lilydale Lake (VIC) and think it is great for a beginner like me as when the wind picked up I could try out a few things and then tuck in behind the islands to enjoy more glassy water away from the wind.

Just wondering if anyone else goes paddling there. Especially someone with a lot more experience than me that I could watch and learn from.

If not, at least I have shared a good beginners place to have a paddle.

I am unsure how many people use the lake for SUP as taking my board down to the water certainly turned some heads... I really didn't like the attention - especially when I am still learning!

A group of us from SUPVIc and SUPAbility visited there about a month ago. Very pleasant spot and definitely a nice, safe venue for getting started, you'd be hard pressed to get yourself In strife out there. Unfortunately I don't know of many paddlers out that far East, most tend to be nearer to the bay, or somewhere coastal, DJ's probably one of the Easternmost, and it would be well worth hooking up with him for some tips.

Con and Camo are closer but don't think either of them venture out to Lilydale.

Hi there,

I live about 1.5km from the lake in Mooroolbark and paddle there with my wife after work during daylight savings. We'd be keen to catchup for a paddle, as Janelle is just learning as well. We've just had a little girl, so it might be a few weeks off yet.

Just becareful paddling there within 24hrs of it raining. The water quality isn't very good. Lysterfield lake is a better cleaner option

Hi

Ive been paddling (once every few weeks) in the Yarra, from Fairfield boathouse to Dights Falls, You don't want to fall in, I have once, hit a log just under the surface, not good :(

When you only have a few hrs and need to have a paddle, any patch of water is great in my view.

The Yarra does have great scenery, and peaceful, its quite protected even on very windy days which is another bonus

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I didn't realise about the water quality. Thanks Daniel.
I have a 5 month old so trying to get core strength back with sup.
I'm hoping to go back to the lake next weekend.

Also David I agree about the Yarra.
My brother lives in camberwell so hoping to go for a paddle with him.
My ultimate goal is to get good enough to try white water river sup. Go from Wonga park to past warrandyte.
