10' Naish Mana if more wave orientated but will do the odd river paddle or for river paddles with the odd surf, the 12' Surftech Laird is a great option.

there are loads of all rounder boards and plenty of advice here on the forum and shops to get advice from...

also most shops do demos....

the learning curve at the begining is very very fast,, so dont get a board that is too easy,, you will outgrow it in a matter of weeks.

I think it's better to get an easy board at the beginning, even if the learning curve is fast - makes it a bit more fun. Consider a second hand one about the 11'6 size, I'd imagine there are a few on offer. After a while you will figure out what is going to work best for you and then sell that board and get what you are after.

182cm, 75kg, shortboard surfer experience.

Well i was just looking at their range, and to tell you the truth its the only board ive really looked at so far. Watched a couple of videos of it, and their surfing/paddling on these tiny 2ft reforms.

I'm guessing ill catch onto SUP pritty quickly with my surfing experience, so would the coreban performer be an ideal intermediate all round board?

I'll throw my 2c worth in.

Depends upon what type of "all rounder" you want as, inevitably, there has to be compromise. If (like me) your focus is to be surfing, then I think you want to go shorter and get something you can develop into in the surf, but which will still allow you paddle around in flat water. You just have to accept the fact that you won't be winning any races though.

As you come from a surfing background, I'd suggest something like the Naish 9' 6" quad. It's a stable board for the size once you get the feel for it, and great fun in the waves. It will paddle you around in flat water quite ok. Also, as this board has been around for a couple of years now, you may be able to pick up one secondhand.

Mate i tried two boards this morrning of my mates

one is a DC 11x28x4 and found the flotation realy good but more of a struggle with the balance.

Starboard Whopper 10x34x4.5 found the floatation slightly les but the balance was fantastic.

Liked them both but will prob use the Dc as once moving was faster for flat water as well as helping with my balance.
My thought for this is if i can ballance that one once i get a board will make it that much easyer ?

Just my two cents

At 75kg, you could probably start off on a 9'5 Naish Mana, 190 Litres, 31" wide.

Check one out. Also check out the 9'6 McTavish....

10-11 foot will give you instant fun though.... but as Windy Miller said, you'll outgrow it quickly....

I've said this before, it's a little harder than it looks (initially).

In that case then yes I agree with you, with your shortboard experience you will undoubdtedly catch on pretty quick. You will probably want something you're not going to grow out of straight away, and being a surfer already you'll pass through the Laird/Naish 11'6" phase quickly too.

BTW I too really like the look of the Coreban range and tried to get my hands on a Performer last year...didn't happen. However it is only 9'6" so Its probably not that ideal for flat water paddling, well any great distance anyway.

Maybe try the Coreban Icon as it's 10' and may be slightly better as an all rounder?

Scully, next time you are at the Alley sing out and you can have a paddle on my 9'6" Naish

Knowing the way you have taken to windsurfing I would say you will be able to get away with something that will last you quite a while. BTW if I can talk the financial controller into the change over my board may be for sale soon, so that may be an option but probably not so good as a flat water paddler. Oh and a bit of a stretch for a first board, but there have been a few that have done it.

My vote goes for the 9'5" or 10' Mana.. or Starboard Hero or Whopper.

I say get one of these 'new school' type boards that are wider and shorter.

Try as many as you can before you make a purchase. Do not go too small to start with the idea of "growing into it" - get something easy and fun and learn to paddle and surf on a comfortable board that will make your life easier and make you less of a hazard to others in the surf.
DJ's options are excellent boards to try and I would also strongly suggest you also consider the 9.11 Walden and the new 10.0 NSP. The coreban performer is a good board but is I believe a board better suited to a much heavier person looking for a pure beach break board. They are kinda corky and have a rolled deck which make them a bit tippy if you are not heavy enough to sink them and their heavy rocker is really only suited to a beach break wave. (purely my personal opinion)

Hey Scully,

As a shop owner the best advise I can give you is chat to some one in a store that specialises in stand up paddle boards and trial a few before you buy one. Discuss with the your height, weight ability and what you are looking to get out of the board.

You should just Demo or hire some boards and try and find someting that fits. You live on the goldy which is blessed for demo and hire of just about any board out there.
