Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau Prepares to Run

WAIMEA BAY, Oahu/Hawaii (Thursday, December 4, 2009) - In statements fitting of the 25th anniversary of The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau, fueled by Monster Energy, Contest Director George Downing and Aikau’s brother Clyde stunned the gathered audience today when they announced that the event would run within the week. All fores point towards one of the largest swells to hit Hawaii in decades. The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau is an ASP specialty sanctioned event.

"Seven, eight or nine," said Downing to an initially bewildered crowd. "It’s gonna happen one of those days." Downing was referring to Monday, December 7, or Tuesday the 8th or Wednesday the 9th.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A pair of enormous ocean swells are brewing in the North Pacific, bringing anticipation that some of the largest waves in years could be hitting the northern shores of the Hawaiian Islands. Forecasters are predicting that Saturday will bring sets of 25-30 feet with waves up to 40 feet in some locations.

An even larger swell is expected to arrive on Monday, continuing into Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. That swell could bring waves in the 30-40 foot range, with some forecasts calling for up to 50 foot faces in some locations.

Date: 06/12/09
Report Time: Saturday morning at 7:30 AM
Surf: 20-25 ft. - 4-5 times overhead
Conditions: fair to good

Man that would be great to see. I've heard in earlier years the houses around Waimea actually came off their stumps due to the waves breaking.

Awesome!

Yep... thats Mike Parsons.... that was in the Billabong Odysee during the Tow-in World Cup at Jaws.... the dude driving is Brad Gerlack.... they were around in surfing when there was no money in the contest scene... and they both hated each other.... but now... they are the best of friends!!
