Yeh currumbin was windy as hell this morning but fun. Counted 14 sup's on water at one time LOL, we all called it the board meeting.
Was fun to see everyone sharing and having great time. Also nice to get the new 10'6 oxbow in the small waves, nice board.

I caught up with Luke the last time he was in town as he was keen to show me his 'Magic Carpet' range of standups and to grab some C4 Waterman deck grip for his latest board.
The designs are classic high performance surf sups. Like all the latest surf sup designs they come standard 5 fin setup so you can ride it like a quad or tri.
I rode the 8'0 which is 30" wide and it was like riding a shortboard fish. Super fast and loose!

Oh yeah, there made right here in Australia on the Gold Coast.

The third picture was the board Luke was riding all stickered up with Billabong!
His mate rode the same board (btw) mate not that good, another guy out was riding a Naish 10.6 Iasked him if it was a 11.4, he said it looks that big because he is a short arse!
Grey in colour man he rocks! Luke!

just a note to 62mac ,that old fat lifeguard you refer to has been in the job over 33 years and saved more lives then needs to mention and is respected highly by luke and its a very difficult job controlling a safe bathing area for all beach goers and more times then not the flags don't even go up ,to give the surfers a fair go .Your comments are another example of no respect for other people in the water ,of which i see more and more everyday by sup riders in the water these days . 4 years ago we stayed clear of the main peaks and showed respect and received it in return but now once they can paddle out, there chasing down every movement in the ocean and getting in the way .These comments and the actions of the majority in the water now is ruining the sport of standup paddle surfing .I avoid reading most comments now as i disagree with the direction this forum mostly is heading but when someone is singled out like that something needs to be done ,use this forum to educate your members and spread the good aloha from where the sport comes from .You all soon will be surprized to see what Larid and Dave Kalama have to say about the direction of the sport ,sorry for the long winded story but mostly want 62mac to show so respect ,i'm sure luke would agree

Luke loves it and gets his fair share of waves. He gets respect cos he has earnt it. I've heard of others getting grief in the line-up when Luke is out and gets none. Outside the Goldy though SUP riders (vic) have started with no respect from surfers (mainly the older guys) and it's our job to gain some respect. I always chase the slightly fatter bank with less or no surfers and get plenty of waves. Ocassionally I'll sneak across and get a couple but it is important to let some sets go through so you don't pinch all the good ones. This way they see you surf and builds respect. It's also important to not paddle out into surf beyond your surf level because if you don't hurt someone ther will be surely a few close calls that will only damage our image on the water.

Anyway, well off track but worth having a think about. I was lucky enough to surf Strady with Luke years ago and toe into a few good waves! Free surfing he is one of the most effortless/stylish surfers eva!

...and those boards look sooo good!!
