THE 34th MERIMBULA CLASSIC

Wave sailing kite surfing Stand Up Paddle surfing
The longest running event of its type in the world
Dear Sponsors Merimbula Sailboard Club will be hosting the 34th Merimbula Classic from Thursday 27th to Sunday 30th November 2014.
The Classic encompasses three water disciplines Stand Up Paddle (SUP) surfing, wave sailing and kite surfing. So there is always something happening in the water from dawn to dusk.
This popular event attracts over 280 competitors from around Australia and overseas to Merimbula. Competitors from the US and Hawaii, Fiji, Greece, Great Britain, Noumea, Tahiti, the Carribean, Japan and NZ as well as Australia’s hottest riders.
Being at the beginning of summer the Classic is an ideal opportunity for sponsors to showcase their products, and being half way between Melbourne and Sydney and 2 to 3 hours drive from Canberra ensures a good turn up of both competitors and spectators.
The event generates great publicity throughout the SUP, wave sailing and kite surfing media as well as coverage and exposure, both locally and nationally. Seabreeze forums buzz with the hype before and after each event, Seabreeze.com.au has been awarded “Australia’s Most Popular Watersports Website” with over 500,000 visitors every month. KITE Mag & SUP Mag,along with WIND Mag and SUPWORLD Magazine had extensive coverage of last year’s event, as well as actively promoting the event during the year. We supply event footage for Channel 10’s Sports Tonight.
The Programme is sent out as an inset in local south coast papers and receives extensive radio coverage.
The support of sponsors has been overwhelming and Merimbula Sailboard Club, through the event, has encouraged all participants to support those sponsors. We hope that you benefit from association with such a popular event held at the start of the surfing/sailing/kiting season.
For our 34th event we offer sponsors the following benefits:

Hey mate what do you think of the Alana ? I have seen it in a few videos of yours
I'm getting one for my wife as a birthday pressy in November, she's only a 5'3" lady, She is just a novice and probably just cruising. Do you reckon it would be stable enough for her ?

Perfect IMO..

Mine's the 9'5" and it would be a great allround board for her.. It's very stable for such a short board and paddles flat water very well..

My friends daughter just bought a new 9'5" Mana (after paddling mine) and is using it as an allrounder board.. and she loves it.. It's a fun board..

I've heard the fun beach 2 bar sup race is back again this year.. with a slight change..

The 4 person teams remains.. But the start will be different.. This year the start will be around in the town near the bridge and the first paddler will paddle against the current.. past the shops and town folk.. and out through the stronger current at the inlet to to bar beach.. Tag the second paddler.. They paddle across the inlet current.. across the bar waves.. and finish at the main (Ford oval) beach.. and tag the third paddler.. They paddle out through the main beach waves.. across to the bar beach waves.. across the inlet current to the bar beach where they will tag their forth and final paddler.. They paddle across the inlet current.. across the bar beach waves.. across to the main beach.. and surf the main beach waves into the finish line.. Should be heaps of fun.. Start picking your teams.. I'm guessing you will need your strongest paddle for the first leg.. Or those like me that are in it just for the fun can enjoy the fun-run type race without the stress.. Oh.. and those teams that like to dress up will also be welcome..

News just in... There will also be a DW race..

The Lahui Kai Merimbula Bay Downwinder Race will start that the main beach.. paddle against the nor'east wind to the pier that's sheltered from the wind by the high cliffs (the aquarium) .. and then turn and head straight down wind to a finish at Pambula..

Or in reverse if we happen to have an odd south wind blowing.

Should also be lots of fun..

It's going to be HUGE..

Who would have thought I'd make it to 34 of these in a row without missing one..

Those who come to their very first one understand why..

Just make sure you stay on the ocean side of the inlet and not the township side so you don't need to drive or walk over the bridge each day to get to where we are.. Try and get close to Ford Oval and the main beach... It's the end of Elizabeth Street..

See you there.. If you're having trouble getting accomodation try Neil at Southern Comfort ( where I stay).. His number is 02 6495 1778
