We finally got it all together and had the first Stand Up Surfing contest with the MNM board riders club today. First up I have to say how impressed I was with the MNM's (Mermaid and Miami) organisation , these guys really have there act together. They ran micro grommets right through to 40+ and had a really strong womens division , it's great they managed to squeeze in the Sup division into this all day schedule and I finally got to meet Mac62.
Conditions were'nt great for stand up with a really solid 3 to 4 foot N.E swell with a pulsing 15+S.E wind and a back breaking shore break , it was really lumpy with confused seas.We did a Lemans start from the beach and we all got straight out in the lull after battling the shore break. They gave us a 30min heat instead of the normal 15min in case we got pinned between waves.
Because there was only 5 of us (a couple bailed because of the conditions) our heat was a straight out final , so with mateship forgotten it was on to get your best 2 waves. Macca the owner of the new Greenline Sup shop took out the day with some really BIG moves on his 11-0.
Here is the shot after our final Left to Right:-
1st: Macca in Pink > Ron House 11-0
2nd: Rosco in Blue > Gerry Lopez 9-6
3rd: Rob in Yellow > Ron House 9-10
5th: Brett in White > Gerry Lopez 10-3
4th: Simo in Red > Ron House 10-6
Every one did extremely well considering the conditions and our wave count was really high compared to the short board riders.I didn't get to ride my 9-1 because the day before I got run over by my good mate Simo the day before at Fingal (it's first surf)

and it got a nasty fin chop in it , he also lost a fin in the crash but in all honesty I would have struggled in those conditions on it.We also got buzzed by a white pointer at Fingal and this was the spot where the guy got attacked last month , don't think we will going back there soon.
