I was wondering if anyone has any advice on these two locations as a sup/surf trip? We're looking at about $4000 per person. We are intermediates wo are comfortable with 4 foot. There will be a few beginners but we plan on travelling in two years, so there's some time for improvement. Some of the areas I'm unsure of are:
- would the ments be too advanced for us? We're bound to mess up plenty of take offs and cop a pounding. I'm guessing that a carter boat can take us to suitable conditions but I hear many waves are shallow, waves of consequence. I checked out the MV Addiction trip and that looked awesome. We could handle those waves but certainly would test us out, particularly if its shallow
-other highlights of the ments?
-are the Maldives waves good and consistent enough to travel to?
Any experiences or thoughts would be great to hear

Both are on my list...haven't done either but I've done heaps of research.

Sounds like a boat trip in the Maldives could be best for you guys. Waves are a bit mellower and the driver can find suitable waves.
If you stay at Pasta Point or Lohi's (the resorts) you have waves right there but can still get boat rides to other spots if need be.

If you do Ments then consider Pitstop Hill. Heaps of mates have done all the land camps in the area and Pitstop and Wave Camp
have had the best reviews. There's plenty of not so gnarly waves in the area. Charters are good as well but unless you are
chasing the bigger stuff a land camp could be better.

I planning my boys trip 40th (still a few years off yet) but will end up at one of the above. Let us know what you end up doing.

from what you describe, maldives hands down. took my sup there last year and loved it. the waves are pretty forgiving you can blow take offs and not get grated. it was a little crowded at times but it was easy to find waves that others weren't surfing and have fun on the sup. the only thing that would be a negative is that sultans (the best wave around those parts) will be exclusive access only by the time you go.

Thanks guys, ill check out all the recommended places above and let you know which way we go. The idea of not getting grated sounds like a bonus.

The Maldivian government have sold/leased the land to a developer to build a resort on it. The land was originally a training island for the Maldvian armed forces. As such, and as with most resorts in The Maldives, the resort will claim exclusivity on the break saying it's owned by them. Very VERY heated topic right now. Locals hate it, but unfortunately money talks as always.

So yes, Honkies, will become exclusive to that resort as well, being both Sultans and Honkies form off the same reef.

A bloke from down this way got 40 stitches in his noggin the week before we arrived at XXXX in the Maldives, so don't think it's all beer and skittles. Yes, it's softer than the Ments but the wave where we were almost pulled a plug out of my 8'5" and stretched a 9ft leggie to at least 15ft, and it was only 4-5ft.....

The Maldives may be a bit softer but once any wave breaking on a reef gets over 4ft it can change, some reefs a bit softer than others but they still can smash you but not as heavy as Indo

In July/August spent 2 weeks in the Maldives on a boat trip from Nth Male down to Southern Central Atolls. Then went to Sri Lanka for 2 weeks as well

Sand bottom points at SL but mostly short waves and very crowded, Arugam Bay great long waves but I have never surfed in a more dangerous location due to the kook factor. Other fun waves around but you have to be mobile. Unreal food, real pretty and great people.

You would be better in the Maldives for serious surf and SL for the fun, cultural and food factor but you would need to be very confident with your sup in a crowd in SL
