Due to the fact that most of the SUP crew stayed in Merimbula last night and are probably nursing huge hangovers I thought I would post up the full results - thanks to Casso texting me as DTM and me drove home.

Open Mens
1st Lummers (allrounder)
2nd Paul Jackson (Jacko)
3rd Dan Cleary (DTM)

Masters
1st AndrewCassidy (Casso)
2nd Kieren Taylor
3rd Chris Talbot

Grand Masters

1st John Christensen (goatman)
2nd Andrew Allen (AA)
3rd Jason McManus (jack mac)

Ladies
1st Alison (Ali Cat)
2nd Mel Mcmanus (Mel B)
3rd Kristi (kristi)

Juniors
1st Jake (ben Dover)
2nd Kai Bates - Uladulla nsw , also up and comer award ,got himself an LSD 8'0 from Walk on water)
Special mention to the young ones ,Max Logue (8'0 LSD) and Elle Mauragis

Best 'up-and-comer' award: Kristi

King Mambo John Messenger (JB)

Paddle Race

1st Qld - Jacko's Mob
2nd Balmoral Banditos (SPSC members)
3rd Casso's Team (SPSC members)
4th Vicco

Awesome weekend - good waves, great crew, heaps of food, heaps of beer, no sleep.

Friday's surf was a highlight, we ended up at Pambula river mouth (about 10 minutes south) in waist to head high waves that ranged from whackable lefts to dredging right handers. About 25 crew spread over 4 -5 peaks, some of the best riders in Australia going nuts for nearly 3 hours.

Phil (OG SUP) got literally nearly 2000 shots and the ones we saw through our beer goggle eys on Sat night night looked amazing (think the Brazillian pics) Homelly and Boylos got a heap of shots as well.

Sat's surf had dropped a lot and was back at Pambula , the shots make it look better than it was but still fun despite the hangover. Sat night most of us hit the pub, with some of us hitting it a little too hard

Sanday morning was sheet glass and the famous Merimbula bar was dishing up really fun knee to waist high rights and lefts with about 20 SUPs on it. The vibe in the water was great with lots of party waves and some good surfing. OG had the water housing out for this sess and got some more good shots I believe. JB was riding behind people shooting video.

I am not sure when we will see the pics and which ones as Casso will no doubt want some of the better ones for the Feb edition of the mag, but I am sure Phill will whack some up when he gets back to Vicco.

Folks' if you have not yet been to a Mambo, let me just say it live up to the hype - most fun you can have on a SUP weekend I reckon. I think we outnumbered the Kites and Sailboards this year and the Teams Paddle race which was covered in the other post was probably the highlight for many of us!

Love to hear some more stories from the other crew when they get back later today!

Woooooo-hooooooo. Just got home. Had an absolute ball. Even the wife and kids loved the whole Mambo experience! We've already booked accomodation for next year.

Stoked with first place in the old fellas division (not the really old fellas division).

It'll probably be old news by then, but you'll have to wait until Australian Paddle Surfer Magazine - issue #2 (out 1 Feb 2010) for my blow by blow account of all the happenings. Sorry.

Hey Breezers,

DJ actually played down how good the Mambo really is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have already booked for next year.

74 Suppers is not enough we have to break the 100 mark.

The BBQ food was sensational, loved the chilli prawns and chicken, fish, lamb

The Vibe of the event was outstanding cant explain you just have to experience it!

The Breezer Crew from all states are fabulous to be around we had an absolute ball.

The photo opportunity was 1st class, you hear about, Goatman, Casso, Lummers, Jacko, DTM, Kieran, DJ etc etc but when they are all in one place feeding off each other its just gob smacking what they can do

DJ thank you so much for setting up the down winder, its an amazing afternoon I will treasure forever and yes I am converted flatwater and downwind are on the drawing board.

Kristi doing the downwider on the DC 9'4 was a highlight for me laughs.

Alicat you were a real stand out I was so impressed with your surfing and so was Kristi you rock!

JB Mel you have the best smile and it never ever leaves your face, meeting you and Jason was a pure pleasure. Jason you got it going on on that Hobie pure style.

Craig I hope your hand heals quickly, watching you get back in the water and seeing the smile on your face paddling out the back was GOLD.

We kept hearing Jacko was a machine on a paddle board well BELEIVE IT.

Marty thank you for loaning Kriti the Naish 8.0 I believe that session really helped her with the judging.

Lummers blew my mind with some of the radical turns he pulled off and full use of the board, nose rides, 360's the list goes on.

Brooko, goatman owns the term CHUCKING BUCKETS you have no idea.

To John Smythe and the Naish Boys Adam and Aiden, Kristi could hardly sleep and she has still not stopped smiling after winning the board. Thank you so much.

Dave Boyd, thank you for building Krisit the Imperial, she really did her best for you this last week she wanted to make you proud.

To be continued after the coma due to lack of sleep eases and I find everything I have lost over the last 7 days lol.

Phill

Cmon Casso, how old do you have to me to be a Master, jees, Grand Master sounds a bit flash Goaty.

Could anyone go in the open, or did you stay in your vintage category.!!!

My first time at the Mambo and had 4 days hanging with a great bunch of people all hugely enthusiastic about suping and with the industry supporting the event with demo boards on offer the whole time it was all good.
Enjoyed seeing the top level of surfing going on especially on Friday at Pambula.
A local Sup'er on the southcoast Steve was happy to join in with all us out of towners which was great as he usually has the small conditions to himself, thanks mate.
SupVic's race win on saturday and photo of the four of us with Lummers no.1 finger salute had the teams from Qld and Nsw fired up for revenge in Sunday's final and as the results posted elsewhere show that's what happened.Well done to the young crew from Qld and Jacko stated at the Preso "the Vics will never win another race" I'm sure the rivalry will be strong again next year all in good fun,
Congrats Lummers on taking out the sup surf section for the 2nd year running,
Cheers,
Camo.

Yep, there is something magical about the MAMBo!
At the end of the day it really boils down to the people. The guys who run it are legends! 29 yeas of running that event and you NEVER feel a bad vibe from any of them, even after 4 days behind the BBQ - its infectious!

When we went last year the feeling was that this was the best SUP event in Australia. Sure we scored (the bar pumping), but you knew that no matter what huey dished up the vibe around the contest area, the BBQ and the bar was always what was going to stoke people out. Remembering of course that it is a Windsurfing event and Kiting event and they are the guys who made it happen for 28 years. We are just the 'ring in's'.

I am sure we will get more than 100 paddlers next year but there will also be a lot of the old Windsurfing crew returning for the 30th. Its going to be huge!

Stoked again to meet so many new new faces especially the boys from Vicco that I have not met like OG, Cammo, Jason and Revin!

The Queensland crew are legends for sure (as the results show) and party harder than anyone.

To also think that quite few crew had never stepped on a Standup board this time a year ago and are now smashing it up makes you wonder just where it is headed!

Awesome weekend! Thanks to everyone who made it so memorable!

Hey Dogman,

We missed you, so Goatie, Matt, Jacko, DTM etc just destroyed every lip in site on your behalf.

If you hand over the pie recipe, we may think about removing the soft c*&k award but it would have to be put to a vote

hey goatman, still recovering from a week of festivities and losing to QLD in the paddle race, so its taken a while to reply. the placing of the other juniors is;

2nd Kai Bates - Uladulla nsw , also up and comer award ,got himself an LSD 8'0 from Walk on water)
Special mention went to two 11 year olds Max and Elle for their efforts at the Bar Sunday morning.
Also must give special mention to Max for his massive paddle helped by the' coffee shot ' in the 'Beach to Bar' paddle race. WELL DONE MAX, massive effort for such a light weight.

If Max was the kid on the 8ft LSD on Sunday morning, the sport is in great hands he rips.

With all the kids coming through Matt, Jacko, Ali better be looking over thier shoulders.

I was stoked to see the 2 girls Kristi's age out there having a crack too.

Nesha will be coming next year she wants to compete in the juniors!

How good was it to see all the competitors encouraging each other hooting and hollaring and calling the kids and each onto waves.

John your Mambo comp rules!

yep Phill, it was Max on the 8'0 LSD, he loves it, even more so when cool people in the water encourage the young ones rather than push them out of the way. Lest hope SUP maintains that coolness. Did you get any shots of the little fella?

Hey don't worry Dr Funk,

Talk to Casso, it was his anniversary too but he just made sure he booked the spa suite & got back from his surf before Alison missed him each morning! Ply your gal with plenty of champagne in the evenings and tell her to sleep in late & you'll be sorted.

And if this all works and she doesn't dump your sorry ass, all of us girls will get her out on a board on the lake & before you know it we'll have another SUPer hooked!!!
