Hi all,

Just getting excited for Mambo, I hope you are all planning to come down (or up/accross) this year for the best event in history!

SUP is an active part of the event this year, and I heard a rumour that the major prize was a NAISH SUP BOARD!

I am planning to do some great paddles through the fish pen and up the river on flat windless days.

Hope to see you all there.

I wonder where YOU got that information?

What will the prize be for? Best general surfer over the weekend, first place in an organised surf comp, first over the line in a specific race, first place in a random raffle, best and fairest, most improved, biggest drinker?

If it's in the true tradition of the Mambo it would be safe to say all of the above.

You can bet it will be based on a wave riding/surfing ability.. So Casso ... You're in the running for sure.. .. (you just have to beat JB)

As 301 said, you are all right.

Mambo scoring breakdown goes something like this,

90% is based on your drinking ability, and attendance to party nights including participation in embarrassing yourself eith on the dance floor or in some way publically noted.

8% is based on your enthusiasm, how much time you spend on the water.

2% is based on if you can actually ride.

and finally 100% is based on how much fun you can fit into one long weekend.

BTW, I know that = 200%, but this isn't a normal competition.

At Mambo, everyones a winner. But as for the board, put all of the above into a blender, mix it up, make sure you add the vodka, and serve it chilled, and you should be in good contention.

I hope to see you all there,

JB

P.s. Drinking is not compolsary at Mambo.

My friend Anne is coming to the Mambo and I took her out on her first go at stand up yesterday.. She paddled like a champ..

So that will be one more SUP'er on the water at the Mambo.. ..even if it is just on the inlet..

Here's a few pics that I took of Anne yesterday at St Kilda marina.

Sorry I forgot to answer your question.

I guess we'll just play it by ear.. In the past couple of years it's been mostly just me.. Last year there were a few others and JB and I paddled out to the point that was maybe 3/4 of and hour all up ( I had my old NSP then) ..and as for paddling up the river I've not gone much past the main bridge but I'd love to just go exploring and it will be great to have others to paddle with this year... I can't wait..

Good stuff JB that puts me back into contention I can handle a big drinkall warmed up after getting back from Hong Kong last couple of weeks after the All Black victory over the Wallabies so I'm primed for a big one at Mambo

Hey DJ, In the photos i note the deck grip is placed towards the back of the board and not were my sweet spot would be,can you explain?
The lady in the shots would be light weight conpaired to me and she looks like she has found her sweet spot on the board!

I cut the front section (and rear section) off my Naish Camo grip in an effort to not cover up too much of the board graphics.

Like what I did with my Oxbow grip on my 10'6".

It was a bad move and I ended up using the bits that I cut off to make deck dots for my 11'4".

Thanks.. I was a bit worried about the big gaps between the dots but with my size 14 feet it's not a problem.

I've since found that the new Naish 11'4" nose rides real well and the board turns from the forward part of the board.. I don't think my 11'6" did this as well.

I've heard that C4 now sell deck dots in a packet for putting on the nose area.

I'd love to be going down to Mambo, but I got to work - should be lots of fun.

If you like DJ's deck grip Macca, this has been posted before, but it's given me more than enough ideas for my next project. I'll probably be doing something similar while you guys are out there having fun. Already have a couple of designs in mind:
